Pathfinding

I've been away from SC4 for about a year but I'm looking to get back into it. There are now a massive number of mods and addons (Peguses, you are a genius), really quite bewildering!

Anyway, I remember one helpful mod was a pathfinding fix. I don't remember the name but it came with a few settings for computer speed, with Perfect being the best. Could someone please tell me what this mod is called and where to get it? Has it be superceded with something newer? For example, does NAM do all this? Is the latest version of NAM the 30th Sept build?

    Welcome to Simtropolis Quboid!

You're looking for the Network Addon Mod (NAM) located in the Modding Files section on the left side of the this page

Thanks - I've been lurking for a while (mainly reading the Digby journal, that is superb).

So NAM covers all my pathfinding needs? I must say, the world of mods is rather confusing. What are dependancies and how do you satisfy them?

    First, the NAM.

It has a variety of pathfinding fixes, choose the one in the installer that is right for you.

    Secondly, dependencies.

Unfortunately, most modders are forced to rely on dependencies for their creations. Think about it like shared files, many people can use them, but nothing works without them. Most lots/bats/etc that require dependencies list them in the description along with handy links. Some only list dependencies in the readme file, so it is important to always read the readme (that's why it's there). It is imperative to install these files in addition to the actual lot/bat/etc. Otherwise you may end up with brown boxes or missing props (or textures). A search on the STEX for mega will turn up many of the commonly used dependencies. Also, the STEX CD has links to all of the common dependencies (it's available with a small donation of $20 (shameless commerce, just shameless).

Anyway, I hope this helps. If not, feel free to PM me or respond again in this thread.

It's certainly worth your while. 9.gif
