I wanted to connect to neighboring cities by rail. I build a Frieght Rail Station and then a road conecting to it. How do you build rails coming from the rail station or am I doing something wrong? I searched the forums, but, there was no post on how to set up rail systems 7.gif . Thank You in Advance.

Hello! Welcome to simtropolis! I hope you enjoy it here! You have a cool name!

To make the Maxis Stations work, they simply just need to be touching the rail line. So just drag the rail in whichever form you want then come back and place the rail stations next to the rail, so they are touching them. To get them to be used by sims, they also need to be touching a road.

And for sims to use them, you need at least two stations. One where your sims live (residential), and one where they work (Industry or Commercial). You have to give them reasons to use them, and the reason should be because its an easy way to get to work.

Good luck, I hope I helped!

You can't have a real freight rail system: only industrial areas can use the freight stations; they simply try to send their products to the nearest neighborhood connection, and in most cases they will use trucks instead of trains.

That's not true. Sims use rail if it is convenient, and if you put lots of toll booths in, they will use rail even more. For industry, box in th industrial zones with no truck lots from the STEX, and put rail lines through the zones themselves. If an industrial lot is next to a rail line, it doesn't need a station.

In your Mayor menu, under transport, there is a railway icon. When you click that you should see an icon for track laying. just click that and drag your rail track in the same way that you drag roads, streets and avenues etc.

There is also elevated rail, which can connect to your subway system, but that will not work with ground railway stations. I think this El rail is found in the subway menu - not the railway menu, so you shouldn't get them mixed up.

All the best.
