    ^ Comparing sexually slanted advertising to rest room graffiti is very apt.  Why such garbage should appear in your living room at home is a good question.  I believe the most prurient minds are probably found in good old Madison Avenue.

    @LexusInfernus I noticed in many topics you tend to propose arguments with facts . Well you said , "No kid ever plays 'porn star'. Literally no one does that. Anyone that tells you kids do that is lying to your face." . I beg to differ , is this a lie ? http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/03/23/third-graders-oral-sex-tallulah-elementary-school_n_1375399.html . So I presented fact . And the same kind of act occurred on a school bus with middle school students in my hometown . And I know it to be true , because it just so happened to involve my nephew's daughter sad to say . Oh , and by the way my nephew is a single parent holding down two jobs to support his children . Just because it doesn't all make mainstream media ,doesn't mean it is not happening . You also said "Whats wrong with bras? Why would that be offensive? Are breasts offensive and therefor by extension the clothes used to support them?" I'm not offended , but some people are raised with different morals and I respect that . And I wouldn't be very happy if I had my girlfriend's grandchildren on the sofa watching "Despicable Me" , a cartoon at that being interrupted by a bra commercial . Not to mention again , it came on a half a dozen times before the movie had ended . And you said "They tell kids all kinds of lies about how awful sex outside of marriage is. Not that this ever stops teens from trying it because hormones are not so easily impressed by blatant scaremongering nonsense." I'm saying hormones are being aroused a bit prematurely with so much skin being flashed in these children's faces today .

    Kids have been playing doctor since time immemorial. As far as I'm aware there is no tangible or conclusive evidence that hormones are being aroused prematurely by media. Just look up some of the antics going on in British and French boarding schools during the late 19th and early 20th century. There was no salacious mass media to arouse that type of behavior at that time, it's just something kids do.

    A bra commercial is perfectly within the demographics of a channel like ABC Familiy. Time of day or night is also a factor in what age range commercials are targeted at. You and your gf were watching Despicable Me and you saw the bra add. Are you not old enough? Yes you are.

    Part of being a parent is having to explain to your kids some of those uncomfortable things in life. Where do babies come from? What makes a girl different from a boy? And so on. I think the reason your gf and you were offended is coming from the realization that you'd have to explain to a child what a bra is. You've been hit by the fact that kids can't be innocent forever. That the world is full of sharp things ready to pop the bubble we've created around them. That you aren't the only force exerting influence on their development.

    We try to protect them for as long as possible, but that could be counterproductive. Kids can be mischievous by nature. They are naturally curious. If you try to hide things from them, set up taboos, that might only motivate them even more to find out, to experiment. If your child comes up to you and says: "What's a bra?" it will of course make you cringe at first, but once you've explained what it is then you realize it's no big deal. Your child learned something, on to the next phase of life.

       Hey everyone , Back the truck up . I didn't say I was "offended" and It was my GF that was . I could care less . And as far as telling about what a bra is for , that talk happened over twenty years ago . And them kids now have their own . So it's not my problem anymore , it's for whoever has children now . And yeah , I know also girls were getting married at age 15 many moons ago as well .

       It was an opinion , about my GF being offended . and she feels it just seems a bit inappropriate .

    And the way I figure , boobs are like friends . You have big ones , small ones , real ones and fake ones . And opinions are like buttholes , everybody has one .

    Didn't mean to put you on the spot with my reply and sorry for doing it again, but you did say "if we were watching this film with children present, I too may had been a bit upset", "I wouldn't be very happy if I had my girlfriend's grandchildren on the sofa watching "Despicable Me" , a cartoon at that being interrupted by a bra commercial", and "I don't think children need to be exposed to nearly naked people parading around".

    You thought it was inappropriate too. You took hypothetical offense. No need to deny it. You do care, why else would you bringing it up?

    Having to tell your kids about bras or underwear isn't a "problem".

    Well, underwear advertising is generally rather sexist.  I object to it on children's channels on the grounds that the children watching may not comprehend what is going on and wind up asking premature questions of parents (or worse, peers).  On the other hand, I find no part of the human anatomy offensive any more than I do the hind parts of a bull.  It is all animal anatomy and making an issue of it is ridiculous.

    Now Brassieres have a definite function and for any kind of comfort with some women are an absolute necessity.  Nothing wrong with making them comfortable and even fashionable, but think about where you are going to advertise them, please.

    This discussion has wandered rather a long way from advertising NAZI paraphernalia on a subway car, don't you think?

    What do you think of commercials advertising the show that you are watching?  Overkill?  Tastelessness?  Carelessness on the part of the guy in the director's booth?

    And what about running the same ad, back to back?  Most of these are aimed at cretins.

    @A Nonny Moose Check the links added to your quoted post; this 'you' that you adress is nothing more than a lousy shopowner -- or agent of the same -- trying to boost search engine ratings.

    How fitting that such nasty tactics would enter a thread entitle 'Offensive advertsing'.

    Something out of context here.  The only link is to a news article.  [spell check much?}
