I keep getting a "no road connection" to my landfill...

I have build a road all the way around my landfill yet it still shows the icon with a car and a slash through it. At first I thought the zone was to big (I didn't know how far a lanfill zone can be from a road) so I made it smaller. But even when I had like a 2x4 zone of landfill with a road all the way around it I still am getting that icon, how can there not be any road connection? *sigh* Seems like the only way I can get rid of my garbage is with a waste to energy plant at the moment 7.gif

Welcome to Simtropolis, working my way to try to earn the 2006 Trixies, then again, it's too early for that!

Well, the streets are not compatitble with landfill connections, so I suggest the only connections to use are roads or avenues. 1.gif

There you go!

Streets are compatible with landfills.  I use them all of the time.

Landfills don't have any sort of have to be within a certain distance of roads quality that I know of.  I have built landfills the size of entire cities with a street that goes around it and everything was fine.  It's really difficult to tell what might be the problem because this same general problem was in SC3K, and I don't think that anybody ever found a reliable way to fix it.  When Maxis made SC4, they copied a lot of the code for that kind of stuff, and they brought the landfill bug with them.15.gif

The street must be touching the landfill lot, and I am not sure but the street must be connected to the streets of the zones.

I figured out what was wrong. It wasn't that I had no roads connected to them. It's because I had no residents in the city where the landfill was located. I was shipping the garbage from one city to another but the garbage city had zero population. As soon as a few houses were built the problem was corrected. I didn't know landfills required at least a resident or two in the area but now I know and knowing is half the battle 2.gif

Well, I didn't know that either.  I seem to remember that a population isn't necessary in a city, because I have created industrial cities with landfill that worked fine.  None the less, I'll have to remember that.

I've had this problem before and I found that if I supply it with water then the no road conection message and icon goes away.  Once I figured this out I realized that the amount of residents don't mean anything.  I have played a city where the first thing I did was zone for a landfill conect a road to it and supply it with water.  Then I went and started laying streets and roads for my city before I zoned anything else and I was able to go a couple of years before any residents moved in and I had no messages or icons for no road conection to my landfill.

Oh...so it's basically a water supply that gets it going?? Strange, I never connect my garbage to my water supply for fear of contaminating the water (it does btw 3.gif) and I've never gotten that problem before.

Ah well, I'll remember it anyway.

Well, this bug is very interesting if it can be solved with water too.  I guess that I should compile this and make some sort of a tutorial about it.  If anyone has any sort of information about this that they would like to add, please send me a PM.  Thank you.

Once your City starts growing you could remove the water connection if you like.  I have tried doing that to prevent water contamination.  It really doesn't prevent it.  It just causes the contamination or pollution longer to effect the water supply.  I have found, as I am sure most have, that the biggest contaminate to the water is simply dirty industry.

I have also found that by disconecting the water supply to the landfill that I keep getting messages that my sims are dying of thirst or somthing like that.

I don't supply water to landfills, and I have them, like Voar Tok, in cities with nothing but industrial.  I don't seem to have any problems with no car zots.  Sometimes it takes awhile for the landfill to decide it has a road, though.  Just like when you convert roads to oneway roads, it takes a while for the dumb sims to figure out how to get around.
