I have recently recieved sim city. The game runs great, but I am having a few issues with custom content. I can launch the BAT plugin fine, but when i use the export function, it give me about 5 Access Denied popups. After that it renders normally. But then when i go into the Plug-in manager, i get a few more Access denied popups, and finaly get one more when dragging the model name into the catagory. Although i have seen no direct evidence of this causing problems, its really bothering me. Also, when I view my models zoomed in at the closest and second closest levels, the model appears as a grey rectangular prism. Im not sure if this is related, but it most likely is.  Anyone have any ideas about whats going on? I can provide screenshots if needed.

Thank You.

It sounds more like a file, or an OS system issue.  Could also be related to your login if you are using Windows XP.  We need more information to help you.  Like where the texture images are stored, and the file attributes.  Also do you have all the Plugin Manager updates, and the script patch for it.

Sorry for the lack of information. Here is everything you asked for:

    OS-Windows XP
Texture imagages- i dont think this matters because i tested this without textures and there was no differance. I have used texture from shared folders, the c drive, and cds however.
File Atributes: What do you mean by file atributes?
Plugin manager: I think i have the updates but i am not sure. How can i check?

    More information:

-I am running this on a non-admin account so that may be the issue. Ill try to run it on admin a little bit later.
-Inbetween access denied popups im getting registry closed popups.

When you say shared folders, it that on another computer?  If so that could be the cause, if for some reason that computer/folder is not setup right.  Check to see if you can access the texture files with an image editor, from the loggon where gmax is running.  I don't know about the registry closed issue.

All of the updates you need are on this simcity.ea.com page:

Check to see if you have those updates/patches, because that might be causing the gray pixilated issue.

If none of this helps, I guess we'll have to look at something else.

This kind of behavior seems to indicate you are running on a network and that some of the installation was placed by another userid. SC4 is designed to run only for the installing user, and it was not envisioned using it with a network. If you can, I would run as an Admin user.

That seems logical. By shared folder i mean another computer and that has nothing to do with it, because like i said, i still have the problem without using textures. Its probably the admin issue because i know i installed BAT on admin, and when it didnt work on the other account.

Well, mines not the case here...I have the same problem and I don't share with any other computer...the only network I have is with my ISP because I have a wireless connection...other than that, no other computer can access my computer. Anyway, just to show ( and to check ) I'm in the right thread, here's a picture of my problem:

    AccessDenied.jpg

I just installed the thing not too long ago and then it tells me Access Denied in a Windows Error Message. For the main part, I have no other accounts on my computer so I'm the computer administrator by default. This is all the information I know about my computer:

    Processor: Intel Celeron

    OS: Windows Xp

    Brand: Compaq Presario

    RAM: 512 ( 504 to be technical )

HD: I have 2. One is partioned by default with one as the OS and the other as a recovery partion. Combined, it's around 74GB or so. The other one is...I forgot the name but it's 80GB.

Name of Game: Sim City 4 Deluxe Edition

    Version: Deluxe Edition

    Patches?: No

So, you need to move your userid into the admin group.  Sign on to the admin group and change the group to the id you want this userid to belong to.

If you are unable to do this, I suspect that you will have to reinstall the game on an admin userid.

Sorry...I have no clue what your talking about...if your talking about multiple accounts...I dont have them....I never created multiple accounts on this computer...I've already checked and the only account that it signs into, is signed in as Computer Administrator. The only other account on my computer is a Guest Account and it's turned off.
