Questions about Asset Editor

Hi everyone. So I've been playing around with the Asset Editor for the first time, and I'm having a bit of trouble.  I also can't find a definitive guide anywhere.

There's this Wiki Article: http://www.skylineswiki.com/Asset_Editor

Which explained to me that in order to add thumbnails or screen shots to an asset, you have to replace them in the file structure.  OK, great, but I'm not even there yet, but I will probably have questions about that when I do get there, such as where those files are located (I use Steam), and what the correct file type and file size are.

When I started using the Asset Editor, I had the damnedest time figuring out how to rotate an object.  A Google search led me to a Steam thread about it, and I got the answer.

But now I have created two assets: a little 4x4 park and a 1x2 filler tile.  I have saved both files and made sure they were both active in my content manager, but neither shows up in game.  What's worse, neither will load in the Asset Editor.  When I started these lots, I chose the Temperate Theme, and I even made sure to load a temperate map to test them out.  But they just aren't there.

I'm wondering if anyone can help me out here, and I'm also interested in knowing if there is a guide out there on how to use the Asset Editor--really use it.  Not just what it does, but how it works and how to troubleshoot issues.

Thanks so much!

I've encountered this bug multiple times. For now, it seems that assets saved in one game session, no matter they're a new file or an overwrite, cannot be re-opened afterward during the same session. Re-entering the asset editor in the same session doesn't work, either. I've only been able to re-open those assets after restarting the entire program. But I assure you your assets are properly saved; they just can't be re-loaded during the same session. Once you restart the game executable, the asset editor will load them properly.

As far as adding thumbnails to your assets goes...

TPB wrote up a great little tutorial on it. It works great.

It might be irrelevant info now, as the current patch supports this feature, and the assets created with this new feature are generally smaller in size, I believe.

However, I'm not saying that the guide is of no value now. It has a part that teaches you how to create a graphic thumbnail for your assets, and I hope TPB can extend on that part to include more detail on graphics-making. It was a really helpful guide, back then in April, anyway.

Well, it works.  Thanks again everyone.  I have been able to create several assets, modify them, add the necessary screen grabs and thumbnails, and use them in game.  I even figured out how to upload them.  I wish the asset editor had a checklist like the map editor does, but hopefully it will be improved over time.

Now if only there were more path types for my parks!  Paved or dirt paths only?  If you guys know a resource for new path textures, I'm all ears!
