Custom Trains, Busses & Planes question

I haven't had a chance to load the game up since before the new update, but I was wondering how it handles custom service vehicles. Does one get spawned at random, or can you choose which vehicle is used on a given line?

Similiar or close to the same way regular building assets work - you basically select "Vehicle" and are given an option to select which category (Police, Fire, Residential, Etc.)  You then - typically the same with buildings - select a template and a particular template to "over-write" with your custom model.

After saving and going throug the asset editor hoops, your vehicles (depending the category) will auto spawn on the map.  In my testing, I've created "police cars" as tanks and I see that both get spawned.  Police cars AND tanks.  That tells me that there is some random autogeneration to how the game calls which vehicle to probably spawn.

I meant in the game. After installing a custom bus, for instance, do you get to choose which bus is used on a bus line, or is it random?

I havent delved particularly deep, but I don't think so. I see a variety of vehicles on different routes. This is actually very realistic, at least for where I live. Any one, of say, 10 types of buses will run on my local route.

Ah, dang. I was hoping you could choose. In Toronto we have 3-4 different busses, but generally one route is done by all one type of bus for the most part. The more frequented routes, and the downtown ones especially, pretty much all have newer busses, whereas some of the more 'fringe' routes have older ones. There are exceptions, of course, but in general that's how it is here. Same for the subway - the main Yonge/University line has all the new cars, and the other lines all have older trains.

Based on my experiments, if you have (as an example) more than one bus model the game will randomly choose one of them for a line and use only that one for that line, no matter how many buses serve the line. So each line will have all the same buses, different lines can have different buses, but you cannot pick which one it uses. It's the luck of the draw.

Thanks for the reply! I finally got a chance to (briefly) fire up the game the other night, but that's all I've been able to play since before the last update came out unfortunately.

I did discover a vehicle mod where you can disable vehicles, so I might be able to disable all vehicles that I don't want and then I can control my busses and trains that way I guess.

With the help of the Improved Public Transport mod, you can now assign a certain vehicle to each line. :)  This would work for all mass transit modes that have lines, I assume.

This guide contains several helpful tools for managing the vehicles in the game. I highly suggest using Advanced Vehicle Options if you want to get rid of the hotdog, pesticide, and those silly trucks in overall. You can also set the speed they go. Mind you the cars won't go faster than 100 km/h because that is the maximum allowed by the highways. You can also control which buses or vehicles can spawn, as well as the color, if the vehicle allows.

The world is what you make of it, no matter what others say or do, you are still responsible for what you do.

Finding a way to criticize everything is a waste of time and effort that can be used to do something enjoyable.
