Welcome!

NAM stands for Network Addon Modd. It is designed to enhance your transit network.

You can get a copy here for PC users , or here if you own a Mac computer.

the NAM is a must-have for SimCity 4. it mainly deals with transportation networks. it contains several bugfixes, adds several options such as new freeway interchanges and ramps, and gives you the ability to do a lot of things that wouldn't be possible without the NAM such as transitioning avenues into one-ways. it also contains roundabouts and turning lanes. one of the major thing it does is add the new GLR network. it's basically EL Rail, but on the ground. it's used to build realistic tram systems in cities.

you should get the NAM, and if you don't like it, you can always remove it.

A related question from a modding and NAM $%&^!....

How can I tell if I've installed the NAM? Will there be some reflection of this in a version number, or is the only way to tell by examining the different transit options available and noting that new or different things are available? ALso, is there any place here on Simtropolis that has a comprehensive history of changes made with new NAM releases (I'm assuming there have been several over time)? Inquiring minds are dying to know! Thanks!

If you have installed the NAM, you will have additional items in your transportation menus.

For one, there will be two (or three) additional network tools:
1. GLR (under the Mass Transit menu)
2. Pedestrian Mall Tiles (under the Road menu)
3. (possibly ANT) (under the Highway menu)

There will also be some expanded options available under all menus including elevated puzzle pieces for most networks.

You can check the NAM threads: General Discussion , Requests , and Development for information changes made. You will also find a detailed history of changes in the Readme file included with the NAM download.

Whether you have it or not, I recommend that you download the most recent version.

If you don't know which version you have, check the file date. The NAM download always includes the release date, so if the file has the same date (or some days before), you have the current version installed. As tchaos pointed out, the complete history is documented in the readme files as well.
