Just got my copy of Rush Hour, haven't installed it yet though. I downloaded a mod for trees and it says about watching out for dependencies. What are dependencies?

Hi!

Let me be the first to say Welcome to Simptropolis! Its great to see a new face! And welcome to rush hour, I'm sure you'll enjoy it, its a great game!

Now, to your question. Dependencies are simple, when you download a lot from the stex, sometimes not everything you need is there. Dependencies are a seperate download which you need in order to make a lot, or BAT work. In your case, it probably means that you need the tree files to download before you can use the trees.

Whenever you download something that needs dependencies, it should say where you downloaded it from which dependencies it needs. If it doesn't say it there then it will in the read-me in the file you downloaded.

SO basically, dependencies are files which you need in order to make a download work, and so you need to download the dependencies. Many lots on the STEX need them, and it will always state if they do.

Good luck, and if you still don't understand what a dependency is then please say so. If you are having trouble finding a dependency for something then tell us what it is and I will help you find it!

Oh and if when you are playing simcity and place a lot (or anythign really) and you see a big brow package with a string around it, then it means you have a dependency missing, which you need to download!

Good luck with your dependencies! And I hope you enjoy Rush Hour and of course right here at Simtropolis! 9.gif

Also make sure you have all the dependencies ready before you download the main part.  I've downloaded without, and you either get a Wal-Mart without a parking lot, or even a big huge box thing...

Thx guys. I believe i'll have a great time here!

The mod i downloaded was Jeroni's plopable trees. Apparently to use his mod i need like almost 10 other mods or tree lots. I guess i'll try out the others first...

    Again, thx!

Oh, another thing. Can any1 of u recommend any basic mods that does not require any dependencies? i want to start from there then only advance to those more sophisticated. And where can i find the slope mod that Jeroni uses? does it have alot of dependencies?

    You're welcome.

But dependencies aren't exactly bad things, all it means is that instead of downloading one huge file, you download a couple of small ones. Don't be afraid to download them! 9.gif

The reason people make dependencies is so you don't have to download the same basic file needed for many lots again and again with each lot. So it actually saves the amount you have to download! 19.gif

Now, basic mods, well it depends what you want. It you wnat lots, then just a quick search on the STEX (simtropolis exchange, located to your left) will provide you with any building you can imagine!

Now, if you want mods, then go to the modding section (at the bottom of the bar on the left) and there are endless amounts of mods, and I think none of them have dependencies.

Now, the basic mod you need is the NAM, which will fix many faults in Rush Hour and adds a whole lot! It adds roundabouts, diagonal streets, overpasses, more interchanges, puzzle pieces, a tram rail network, the ANT network, and so much more! You can find it on the home page (scroll down the news) or click here. Just remember, read the readme! Its important, because the NAM (Network Addon Mod) is a huge addon for the game! 10.gif

If you want to drastically change the look of the terrain and trees then look here.

I would recomend a water mod. Have a look through those pages for one you like.

And Jeonij's stuff is pretty good, especially if you're looking for some fun stuff to start with. Take a look through his pages here.

Oh and for your ploppable trees, this thread should answer any question you have. If theres a pack you want to download, then click on the link and jeronij should say exactly what you need for it!

Hmmmm... there's not that much more I can think of... 21.gif

But if you have any thing in particluar you want, or need any help with any of the things I've posted in this post, then don't hesitate to ask! 9.gif Hope I helped.

    Good luck!

    Cheers, choco.

EDIT: Oh, I forgot about your slope mod! Well, there is one by bones1 here. and there is a more extreme BRF one, but I cannot seem to find that right now. I use the bones one, and I think it works very well.

It works even better with the ANT, because you can use the ANT network to make very sloped slopes! 18.gif

A good shot at the issue there.

Hello, As well as dependancies (external files you obtain using another link), I make my own props instead. That would save the trouble!

I knew they were memory-consuming, then comes the idea of uploading props as a seperate download. That would mean dependancies, the only difference is that it would be my own!

Welcome, I'm sure you'll enjoy this site and find out much more about SC.  May I suggest that before you start downloading thing that you get the Plugin organizer ( https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?mode=files&filetype=BAT&Str=organize%20your%20plugin%20folder ) it will help you tremendously!  The good thin about org. your plug ins is that if something goes wonky (technical term you know) and you have organized then you'll know where to look for the troublemaker.  Additionally, when you decide you're ready for the SC tool (which lets you load specific folders for specific regions) You'll be readier to go.  Another suggestion.  There is a Thread in the forums for new people which explains terms and abbreviations.

    Enjoy!  44.gif

Personally, I think that the best method is having the props available as separate downloads.  It makes everything a little harder to keep track of, but dialup users like myself get tired of having to download files that contain props that they already have from another download.

A dependancy is something else that the lot needs, like custom textures or props, that without them, the lot will not look/funtion right.

    For example:

A building requires BSC textures pack.  if you dont download that as well, the lot will not have textures

    or

A building requires NDEX global essentials.  if you dont have that, maybe some props wont show up
