dumb question... essential downloads for most lot files?

Okay, so pardon my severe ignorance, and I'm almost positive it's somewhere on the website, but to be perfectly honest, navigating Simtropolis gives me a gigantic headache 7.gif

Anywho, I've been itching to upgrade my SC4 installation with about a bajillion new growable lot files. The problem is, almost every one I download has a list of dependencies that I also have to download. And they all have different ones. And each one of them is tucked away elsewhere on Simtropolis's site, making veins throb in my head.

I guess what my main stab at a question is.. where/what/who do I need to download in order to be able to enjoy these beautiful buildings painlessly and effortlessly? I'd love to expand the variety of buildings that pop up in my city... heck, even lot megapacks would be helpful. No cheating ones, though... office buildings that provide 50,000,000 jobs and 40 million dollars a minute need not apply.

Can anyone help? 1.gif

Thanks,

LF

My best advice is to accept the fact that dependancies are everywhere, and they are not going away until people start to actually give proper credit and not steal anyone else's work... and we all now that is not going to happen for a long time.

My best advice to you is to concentrate and be consistant with yourself; sort out plugin files accordinly, and as you download more dependancies, you don't need to download them again. (They get repetative once you have nearly everything).

If you want the WHOLE stex worth of beautiful stuff, go to the last EVER page and work your way up...

People who do nice things are:
NDEX
BSC
PEG
Ill_Tonsko
Jeronji
Bobbo66
etc...

Hopie that helpie, and if you need more assistance pm the guys at the Simtropolis Health Squad, they are a group of members that work together to help some one's problems.

To add to what Nealos101 said, as you download the dependencies make a list of each one so that as you go through the ReadMe's looking at the list of dependencies you will have a ready reference sheet of what you've already got.  This will keep down the duplication and speed up your enjoyment of the new bats.  In time you will have them all and then you just need to keep up with the new ones.  Make sure you track them all so if they're updated you'll know.  Also, keep the downloaded zip files in a separate folder that is not part of SC4 so if you ever have to reinstall SC4 you won't have to download everything all over again. 10.gif

I was afraid those were the answers I was going to get 3.gif I just hate digging... I love being able to be like why yes, I'd LOVE to download 4000 high quality buildings at once and wabam, instant gratification.

Thanks for the suggestions... I'll start digging.

Well, you shouldn't actually have to dig that much. For example, if you search NDEX in the exchange. ANd then click on one of their buildings you will find at the bottom a list of dependencies, each with a link to the download. SO you don't have to dig, you just click and download! Easy!

And the beauty of it is, if you download the main NDEX dependencies, then you won't need many others for about all of the NDEX lots! So you can download the dependencies once instead of having to download them again with each building!

So really, when you start downloading a few, you can start to see the benifits, I mean I don't want to have to download 8 mb everytime I download an NDEX building! This way is easier I think. So there is no need to dig most of the time, just follow the links!

    Good luck, hope I helped!

PS: NDEX is a bat making team.

    Cheers, choco. 9.gif

Oh, I agree... I guess I'm just a stubborn curmudgeon when it comes to this stuff... something like a community-organized here, you need this stuff to enjoy 80% of the content here link, or a webpage of some of these BAt teams with all of their buildings for download as packs... or something. I dunno, just ideas. 1.gif

I don't think this question is dumb at all - I, too, am confused as to why there isn't a page (is there one?) for essential files - files that are often used for the downloaded mods.  It's obvious that it's a common request - if you search for the word "essential" several other people have asked the same question.

I'm still searching, now on the new site!  I would rather get the essentials, get the new stuff, check, say, yep I have that dependency and move on.  But right now I download, then have to search for the dependency - it's tedious and not very fun.

If I'm missing something, please someone fill me in!

start with Greyviel's up and running tutorial and the NAM and  Mega packs and  Essential files from BSC and NDEX (they will catch you up to speed on the most commonly used props and textures), if your going to use the  STEX (person; opion cuz i like Goober and DT) after  that go as you go with the author's readmes files

once you install the dependancies...best bet...don't play with them...just leave them in you game...I set special folders aside myself or use the auto-installers and let them be happy where they are...only need the dependcies your going to use in the game, once needed you'll most likely always need it...3.gif...4.gif
