It is a very warm 47F with rain, and in the middle of the night. About 20-30 degrees warmer than it should be at night this time of year. There is a wind advisory. Winds blowing 20-30mph with gusts to 50mph.

After a 40°F temp swing in one day just 2 days ago, it's now in the low teens and 6" of snow fell this evening. Commutes are predictably impossible, with 30 min commutes clocked in at over 4 hours.

It has been pretty warm (considering its winter) up until the last week, then it finally managed to drop below 0 F. (Casper, Wyoming) I don't mind the cold, but it's a little annoying when your car wont start.

We only need enjoy one day at a time.

here in Vancouver, where normal december temperatures hover around 7 C, it is somewhere between -1 and -8 C, and snowing. it snowed 10cm saturday night, and it surprised everyone since all the weather reports said that it wouldn't snow at all and it would be a cold, clear night. apparently it will snow again this weekend and stay below 0 until Christmas. personally, I love this weather.

It's Chicago, all right.

Last night it dipped to -8° F/-22° C, with windchills to -30° F/-34° C.

 Tonight, it's about 8° F/-13° C, windchills to -12° F/ -25° C.

Up to 12"/ 30cm more snow tomorrow, on top of the 6" already here. At least after tomorrow, it should be above freezing for a while. This has already been the 3rd snowiest December on record, and among the coldest as well.

Must be all that global warming.

The wind has been pretty crazy the past few days. I saw on the news gusts up to 70mpg being reported. When I was walking in the parking lot at Walmart earlier, one big gust nearly knocked me over! And that's not even close to what I have experienced here in the past.

25 C (77 F). Max 29 (84). Rain. Wind NE, 16 kph (10 mph).

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

4°C / 39F, cloudy. It was actually raining during the night, so if it had been colder we probably would have had a white Christmas instead of a depressing gray one...

yesterday was warm and so is today. i think that severe storms will be possible, even a weak tornado.

We had our first Spring Thunder storm yesterday.

Lightning, hail, massive winds, tornado warnings.

Winter is over.

The wind just got here from Ohio. It was comfortable today. Felt like 60's. Cloudy as usual. Now it's raining. Washing away the wintery mess. Winter will be here for a while up here, Easy Bakes. 4.gif

Remember to find the Southwest corner in a tornado!

I dont panic during those warnings.

The N texas area is huge and these warnings cover the whole area.

That dopler radar is pretty acurate as to were the tornados will most likely be.

And they only set off the sirens localy so you know it for your area

Storms last night. A power line almost went down in my front yard! It came loose, and was hanging about 6ft off the sidewalk until about noon today.

San Antonio, Texas:

76°F this afternoon and mostly sunny, partly cloudy.  Nighttime low expected to be 60°F.  This is much warmer than average for this time of year, but still nice enough weather for the now underway Stock Show and Rodeo, as well as the upcoming Luminaria Arts Night and then Fiesta season come April.  Ya'll come down to visit us, Deep in the Heart of Texas, ya hear!

We got the trailing end of the line of tornado-spawning storms that wracked north Texas and Oklahoma, leaving us mostly with lots of surprise hail.  I am not sure on the all details of the geography and climatology factors of the Hill Country and Balcones Escarpment that play into such things, but typically, we always get the trailing ends.  Even the most recent major arctic front that came barreling south a few weeks ago threatening to engulf us in a massive ice storm stopped just at the city's northern limits and turned to bypass us to the east.  On radar, it was like watching an invading horde slam against some sort of invisible force field.

However, with the most recent passing front and storm lines, we went from a humidity level of 60% to a humitidy of 15%, which means it is very dry outside.  I was hoping the rain a day ago would have watered the plants enough, but hail makes for poorwatering and their pots are now already dried out.  Being a nice day, I just spent all morning and afternoon watering and potting plants while drawing up plans for reorganizing the patio garden and planting beds to make better use of the water.

I hate to say it, but despite the recent brief storms, San Antonio and south Texas still remain in their longest period of drought since records were started in the mid-1800s.  Fortunately, the onset of spring and, according to the weathercasters, changes in the alignment of the jet stream offer the opportunity for more rain in the coming weeks.  We'll probably see the remaing half of our seasonal trees awaken from dormancy then.  Regrettably, we did not have a really deep hard freeze this winter, which means the dormant flea and mosquito eggs will have made it through in large enough numbers to make their bloodsucking Happy Season later this year relatively bad.  Ah well, the bats will feast good this year.  The Hill Country karst region around San Antonio and Austin has innumerable caves which are home to vast colonies of bats (Austin boasts the world's largest urban bat colony), and I hope the little critters gorge themselves on the coming mosquito swarms.

Something that surprised me today was that our outdoor hanging Donkey Tail succulent plants have bloomed their flowers.  That is rather rare for these plants, as the winter cold, spring heat, and moisture conditions setting their dormancy and blooming periods have to be just right, and I can't recall having seen ours flower.  The Ruby Bells succulent, which looks like an octopus with a hundred tentacles, is not only preparing to bloom but is also eerily growing another triffid head.  I wonder if our Jade Plant will bloom for once!  On the other hand, our hanging succulent Christmas Cactus, which always explodes in a fireworks of flamboyant hot pink flowers, was very weak this season.  Maybe it wasn't cold enough...sigh, never can win with the plants!

Thankfully, the Mountain Cedar trees native to the Hill Country region have eased off a bit with their dusty yellow pollen.  Another regional oddity, Mountain Cedar is one of the few trees, if not the only trees, in the world which pollinates in the middle of winter.  The colder it is, the more the tree casings crack open to release even more pollen, and the wind patterns and geography are such that all of these tree allergen clouds are funnelled into San Antonio.  Incidently, studies have shown that these trees are likely also reacting to manmade development and its pollution, with Mountain Cedar trees nearer to urban areas producing pollen with stronger concentrations of their most hyperallergenic compounds than sister trees further away in more rural areas.  I knew it, it is Chemical Warfare, not unlike "The Happening."

92 mph winds recorded at Pittsburgh International yesterday. Super windy today too. On several occasions I found myself staring out the window at work today. Just watching to see how far the trees would bend over. With the wind comes the cold so it's back to winter for a bit.

Would you believe we have had at least 2 tornados that I can recall in the last 11 years that were within the hilly confines of the City of Pittsburgh? The one storm in particular tipped my car (not entirely over). But it was an '84 Cutlass Supreme. Heavy.

Cold, windy and snowy here in the Chicago area, too. My thermometer says 23° F (-5°C) right now, about 4" (9cm) of snow fell today.

I know I've had enough of this winter wonderland BS... just another month or two 'til  the weather breaks, I hope. I've got landscaping and gardening to do.

Uhh, in Hungary, Budapest, it's still cold, and we had snow finally, first time in the winter. No snow on Chritmas Eve, but snow at the end of February, and maybe in March? Temperature: usually around 0 °C (between -5, and +5 °C, at night, there were places in Hungary with -15 °C in the past days), so very cold, and it won't change much, so maybe i'll see snow on 5th of March, as i did some times in the past years.

Funny thing, when there are snow-crisises in Western Europe, it's usually sunny, or only cloudy here.
