Neighborhoods with personality

One of the draw backs to a game like Sim City is the inability for your sims to personalize the area in which they live. A poor area is simply a poor area, ugly and undistinguished. Yet, in the real world, there are many examples of neighborhoods that, despite the economic disadvantages they face manage to reshape and redefine the areas in which they live.

My favorite example of this is the area in Buenos Aires known as La Boca. This area is made up of rather poor, working class people with a distinct Bohemian population.

As you can see, what these people have done is taken the materials they could find and built their homes, but rather than leave them as rusting corrugated metal and crumbling brick, they have renewed and invigorated the community simply by painting the building with bright, dazzling colors.

My final example comes from Philadelphia:

These are examples of some of the fantastic mosaics that can be found on South Street in Philadelphia, another neighborhood with a great deal of personality.

In any event, I hope that al of the members of this community (and hopefully some BATer's2.gif)have found these images inspiring and I urge you all to post images of other interesting communities you

Isn't there some place in Rio that is all painted one color according to the street? I think they are slums that are painted to make them look prettier to tourists, too tired to find pic.24.gif
