How do I keep SC4 from crashing to the desktop. Everything is updated on my windows 7 OS. I have tried what I seen by starting the game and then task manager and setting for affinity on 1 CPU but didn't make a difference.

When does it crash? at start-up, or during gameplay? Are you using the Network Addon Mod? Some elements there are prone to crash. Also have you deleted other mods lately?

Limiting the game to one CPU core is an important first step. By the way, you can streamline that process by adding this into the launch options of the game (to the desktop shortcut or, in case you use Steam, the "Properties" in your game library). I use something like this:

-CustomResolution:enabled -r1920x1080x32 -CPUCount:1 -intro:off

The third option is for limiting the number of cores (the last gets rid of the intro video, the first two options set the screen resolution to that of my monitor).

As a second step, increasing the memory the game is allowed to use helps a lot with stability. The NAM (Network Addon Mod) installer does this automatically for you.

The third step depends a bit on your computer setup. For example, if you have an ATI or AMD graphics card, the game will ignore your ingame graphics settings and throttle everything down. In that case, you have to tell the game that your computer allows for good graphics settings by editing a few game files.

This question might have been better asked here: https://community.simtropolis.com/forum/5-sc4-bugs-technical-issues/ and a scan through this list may have saved you many hours of angst.
