Can't update to 1.1.640

Hi, I am trying to update to version 1.1.640 to enable nightlighting. I initially installed the North American EP1 update by mistake but I then downloaded the European Version (sku2). It said not installed due to duplicate files but did continue and complete the download saying "congragulations, your patch has been updated". I have checked my SkuData folder and it shows that the sku2_European data file is there. I then installed the SC4Update.bat file however when I check the version of the game it still says version 1.1.680 (The game is legitimate). What can I do to get version 1.1.640?

I would suggest reinstall, than follow instructions when you install NAM 32 addon, which you most def want anyway. It will guide you through installing all the other updates needed for your region, including nightlighting. Worked in my case flawlessly.

Thanks, I can't remember those options when I first installed NAM though, is there any other way without re-installing?

First make sure you have the latest NAM from 2014.  Previous versions won't help you update.  Second, the 1.1.640 patch is separate form the EP1-update.  It can be found under the BAT Tool page on SC4Devotion, here.  Second download down on the list.

Okay, do I firstly need to uninstal Nam from my plug in folder before reinstalling SC4, or do I just install the latest Nam over my existing version? I don't want the re installation to affect my existing cities.

What I know for a fact is that newest version of NAM deals with its previous (de)installations automatically, so if you just want new NAM feel free to proceed with installation, it will remove previous version and install the new. However, it's just not clear what, if any, mess you made with your installing the updates that aren't for your region, if I got your problem correctly. If I were you, I would backup my regions/cities, as well as plugins folder, do clean reinstall and copy plugins and regions back.

 

You can of course just try to reinstall newest NAM and see if its mighty guidance through updating your night textures and version of SC will do the trick.

Danny, try this:

 

1.  Simply uninstall the game, and choose the option to keep your user data

2.  Reinstall

3.  Install the correct EP1 update for your version (610 is the north American version, anything else is the other one)

4.  Install the update4BAT to take you to 640.

5.  Run the BAT installer to update your registry and change anything you want.

 

You don't need to do anything else.  If you mess up during the patching, start over at 1.

Update: well I decided to uninstall SC4 and then reinstall it. I uploaded Nam again which took me to the same links as before to update to 1.1.640 and thankfully it has now finally updated. I seem to always come across difficulties with this game, nothing is ever simple. Thanks for the guidance everyone! I'm sure I'll be back on here in the near future with yet another issue (hopefully not).

That's right.  You can go as far as you like.  Some of the stuff in the NAM will keep you in stitches for months.  Don't forget that if you have NAM problems that there is a This gets attention from the NAM Team pretty quickly.

 

The most important thing for new players is to stay out of high gear (cheetah) except for quick advances for specific things.  Running on cheetah may cause you to miss some of the neat animations that the developers put in to entertain you.
