Plugins install locations

Hello sirs

Plugins should be installed in C:\Users\user\Documents\SimCity 4\Plugins

However, does the location from there on matter? Does the name of subfolders, subfolders, subfolders matter?

For example I have some of SimGoober's C:\Users\users\Documents\SimCity 4\Plugins\SimGoober\Industrials\IM

I have downloadet CAMeLOTs CAM Residential, CAM Commercial Offices and CAM Industrial. But even after installing all the dependencies I could find, several times, I still have brown boxes popping up.

My thought was, could I have misplaced some filesin the plugin folder considdering there's both DAT, SC4LOT and SC4MODEL?

Thanks in advance

Sincerely

As long as the lots are in C:\Documents\SimCity 4\Plugins (standard location) it doesn't matter how deep the directory structure goes.  However, you should follow the installation instructions, if any.  Auto installs (*.exe) can usually be run without a problem.

A review of the plugins file types:

*.dat - partial or complete plugin data, or a special file such as a sound byte.

*.sc4lot - the reference to all other components.  May be included in a *.dat as can all others.

*.sc4desc - the properties of the lot from the BAT.  May be included elsewhere.

*.sc4model - the actual graphic model from the BAT.

I reduce most of my plugins to *.dat format to reduce the number of files using the ilive program Files2DAT.  There is a slight space saving and faster loading.

    Thanks for your quick response.
English isn't my native language, but what I read is all files can be scattered around and sorted as the individual user pleases? As long as their somewhere in the plugins folder?

I'm installing all the .exe files in their default location, assuming file structures had a saying :)

    EDIT:
Oh!! Turns out this thread had the missing depencies, which werent listed in the readme files!!!

Good luck with the CAM.  I haven't used it for years because I prefer a rural layout.

Also there is a tool called datpacker Which packs your data into subfolders so it will be more organized.

But be carefull! There are some mods which dont like datpacker especially the nam.

DATpacker should only be used for selected directories where the content is expected to be totally static.  There is no easy way to edit one of those massive *.dat files.

I have noticed the same thing when I installed a camlot bundle with many different buildings what I found was that the list of dependences was not complete.

take note of the name of the brown box when it appears and look for its independent dependences its trouble some to do but I fear its the only way to solve the problem

    hope this helps
