Visual artifacts (Could be NAM related)

Hi guys,

I am getting some really weird visual artifacts:

Here is an example:

Initially, I only got artifacts when laying down water pipes, but as my city expanded, started getting more of these visual bugs in the regular build mode.

Here is an example of the water pipe view visual bug:

The waterpipe view visual bugs seem to be tied to NAM as some of the visual artifacts seem to be tied to various transport networks (monorail, rail etc.)

I started getting this bug after updating to the latest version of NAM. I did not add any other mods. I first saw this bug when loading an older region with the latest version of NAM. I assumed that starting a new region would fix this problem - but as my city is grows larger, I am getting more of these bugs/

I would prefer to not start with a new profile as I have build a good collection of plugins. It would take forever to rebuild it.

Here is another example of these visual artifacts:

Weird.  What kind of a box of tricks are you running?  What operating system?

Without that information I am going to guess that you are trying to kill a gnat with a sledge hammer.  If your GPU control system allows it, create a separate profile for SimCity 4.exe with all of the 3D options turned off, and give it a try.  Failing that, set all the 3D options on the card to 'application selected' or equivalent wording.

This game was written in 2002 and no GPUs existed in the consumer marketplace that had all the options we have today, so this will try to disable them.

Along with installing the NAM, did you upgrade your computer from Windoze 8 to Windoze 8.1? I did this myself and got the same problems. Try setting the rendering mode to Software and this should fix your problems. However, it will prevent you from using any HD custom content. (that's the stuff that doesn't show up as pixelated in the highest zoom level--closest to the ground)

Actually, now that I think about it, this the first time I've run this profile on Windows 8.1. It was always on Widows 7 or earlier before.

Okay, I will try some of the recommendations in this thread and see what happens.

    Thanks,

The every-which-way pathing is a NAM problem that will settle down after a while.  It has to do with the simulator not being able to keep up with recent changes for a while.

Nope, it's another issue that happens on Windoze 8.1. In fact, it made the route query completely unusable.

Actually I've seen the same effects running Windows 7, long and short you need to try and run with OpenGL and Software rendering to see if either setting fixes the issue, if that solves it then your setup does not support hardware rendering through DirectX. OpenGL would give preferable results to software rendering but again is not compatible with all setups.

Do you like custom textures, but don't like all the work involved creating them?, take a look at the Texture Automation options here. Change the look and feel of your transit networks, with the minimum of effort, for example customised versions of my Sidewalk NAM (SWN) and Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) mods, and much more besides.

New to the NAM? Check out my tutorials on YouTube. Latest upload: How to: RHW - MHO Roundabout Interchanges. (Nov 25).

Okay, this was an issue with my laptop  - it run a system which switches between the Intel integrated GPU and the dedicated card. Once I set Simcity to run with the dedicated card, all of the visual issues disappeared. :)
