IRM+CAM+Custom BATs

I have installed the CAMpatible Industrial Revolution Mod version B, with I-D and I-M at low density and I-HT at high density. I have downloaded some custom old industrial buildings, e.g. NYBT Manhattanville project, Jestarr BATs etc.

As I plan to build a classic American industrial city, is it possible that both Maxis default I-D and I-M and custom BATs grow together? How the game decide to grow the buildings in medium and high density? My primary concern is whether custom buildings grow in both industrial zoning types.

Thanks for your help.

First of all: yes, Maxis and custom buildings can grow together just fine. However, if you want custom buildings to adhere to the same zoning logic as the IRM stuff (low density for I-D ad old-looking I-M stuff, high density for modern-looking I-M stuff adnd I-HT), you may have to adjust a property in the lot file(s) of the BAT in question. I'm currently not sitting at my SimCity PC, but off the top of my head, the property is called "LotConfigPropertyZoneType" or something. You may see the following value(s) for this property:

  • 0x01 - Residential, low density
  • 0x02 - Residential. medium density
  • 0x03 - Residential, high density
  • 0x04 - Commercial, low density
  • 0x05 - Commercial, medium density
  • 0x06 - Commercial, high density
  • 0x07 - Industry, agriculture
  • 0x08 - Industry, low density
  • 0x09 - Industry, high density

The last two values are the ones you're interested in when talking about industrial BATs. You'll have to set the BAT to the corresponding value to make sure it will grow in that zone type. Please note that a BAT may have both zones assigned to it, meaning it will be able to grow on either zone density. The resulting line in the lot exemplar file would look like this:

LotConfigPropertyZoneType            0x08,0x09

Now, how to change it?

  1. Open the lot file using iLive's Reader.
  2. Navigate to the exemplar file inside.*
  3. Find the "LotConfigPropertyZoneType" line.
  4. Double-click the line and modify the value(s) as necessary - for example, change "0x08,0x09" to "0x08" if you want to switch a BAT from growing in both densities to low density only.
  5. Hit "Apply" next to the text field, then "Apply" at the bottom of the pop-up window.
  6. Save the file and exit.

The process may be more newcomer-friendly using a more graphical tool like SC4Tool, but I don't remember the exact windows and steps to describe the process to you - I'd have to do some research on that first. I hope this reply was at least somewhat helpful nonetheless. Please don't hesitate to ask if you get stuck somewhere. It actually sounds more complicated than it is.

*You're looking for the lot exemplar. There may also be a building exemplar inside, depending on how the files are packaged. The building exemplar will have properties such as occupants, power/water consumption, flammability, building value, query sound, and so forth. This is not the one you need.
