Coca-cola enters the dairy market.

The only thing this milk product has going for it is that it is lactose free.  Anyone who is not lactose-intolerant should avoid this like the plague.

This piece of corporate hubris deserves to be met with indifference leading to nemesis.

Milk has enough calories in it as it is.  Jacking it up, will only contribute to obesity in America.  Are corporations contributing to the reduction of life-expectancy?

The weather is pretty darned cynical out in Wall Street.

Money quote (bold mine):

it will "taste better and we’ll charge twice as much for it as the milk [we're] used to buying in a jug,"

That's enough right there.  That's all I needed to know to know that it's a complete rip-off and I'm never buying it ever in my entire life.

Higher protein content = more calories.  You didn't think calories only came from lipids did you?  If proteins are not used they are converted to fat for storage.

True, but the article says that they are also cutting fat and sugar.  On a per gram basis, fat contains slightly over twice as many calories as protein, so for every gram of fat you remove, you can double protein content and still have a net reduction of calories.

^ And will you pay a 100% premium for this?

I view this the same way I view the "luxury hand soap" discussion we had on the site a while back. Sure, the vast bulk of us don't need dish soap with half a dozen vitamins and moisturizers in it, but there are some individuals whose lives are genuinely improved by having ready access to these products. If they feel that these products are adding value to their lives and they can afford to pay for them, who am I to judge? Everyone is different and things we think are stupid may have legitimate value to other individuals. I don't have a problem with companies attempting to serve niche markets.

In my part of Texas, it is odd for people to need gloves, so most stores don't stock men's gloves. My hands get cold and stiff easily, so gloves are a must for me, and I am very thankful that some stores recognize there is a market for men's gloves and order gloves for the winter months.

Makes me think of Sunny D. An orange juice like artificial/blended product with more vitamins it or something, that was popular in the 90s.

It never really replaced OJ at the average breakfast table, and I never liked the stuff. But they still make it so people must continue to buy it.

I am sure it will find a market if the milk producers don't manage to kill it.

Funny, I was just talking about that stuff the other day.  It has to be the worst thing I've ever drank - it just made me real thirsty, and it was all that was available one particular night...and a lousy night it was.  Imagine that parched feeling you get when you haven't had a drink in a while, and add to it that sensation you get in your throat after eat something disagreeable, or like you get sometimes in the morning and want to flush it out immediately but can't.

Thirst-inducing fake OJ with an aftertaste.  Blech.  I'd rather drink ammonia.  This coke stuff can't be half as bad.
