PSA: Sony forced to give PS Vita early adopters a rebate over false ads.

The FTC's complaint [PDF] focused on the Remote Play features on the Vita, which ads from Sony and Deutsch described as "game changing." While that feature only worked with a handful of PlayStation 3 games, the ads falsely implied that the feature would work with any PS3 title. They specifically showed Remote Play for Killzone 3, a game which never made use of the feature. Initial Vita ads also implied that the "cross-save" feature would let you pause a PS3 game at any point to restart on the Vita, when in reality it only worked at certain set points in certain games.

Additionally, the FTC took issue with ads that falsely suggested the 3G version of the Vita would allow players to take part in live online multiplayer gaming away from a Wi-Fi hotspot. In reality, only asynchronous multiplayer and online features like leaderboards are available over 3G. Deutsch LA also stood accused of instructing employees to post positive astroturf tweets about the Vita with the #gamechanger hashtag without revealing their involvement with the firm's marketing efforts.

Anyone who purchased a Playstation Vita and registered it before June 1st 2012, should receive $25 or $50 credit from Sony as punishment for false advertising features that were never implemented and/or planned.

Silly Sony, tricks are for kids.

I like my Playstations, but Sony as a whole is pretty darn full of it.

That is how they market all their systems... i'm surprised they haven't been busted for it yet.

I'm still waiting for PS2 to output the promised Pixar graphics and the PS3 rendering 4D graphics!

To be fair, all gaming companies lie about their console's graphical abilities. When the N64 was code named Project Reality they claimed it would potentially have T2/Jurassic Park level graphics.

To be fair, all gaming companies lie about their console's graphical abilities. When the N64 was code named Project Reality they claimed it would potentially have T2/Jurassic Park level graphics.

Actually in the case of N64 Nintendo had two prototypes in development.

Project Ultra became the N64 with some modified components (carts, less ram, lack of a sound chip).

Project Ultra was also developed with two models in development, one with carts and one with CDs.

Project Ultra with the CD drive was canned due to the load times and then lack of encryption.

Project Reality was canned in the end due to it being too expensive and too ahead of its time (according to the leaked documents)

Project Reality would have rivaled Wii U in power (again according to the leaked documents)

Though to be fair to Nintendo, the SGI had issues with building the processors, causing it to be scaled down to the ones we received.
