Changing default flag in things with flag poles?

I have had a problem for quite some time which is that a number of downloaded content (basically most things that have a flag pole on them) appear with brown boxes because they are requiring a flag that I do not have, apparently, the Hong Kong one, as some text about Hong Kong appears when I scroll over the brown box.

So the questions pertaining to this problem are as follows:

1) Why such buildings are requiring that very specific flag?

2) Is there a way to change the flag to some other default?

3) Not very important if changing the default is easy, but anyway, I have been unable to find a downloadable Hong Kong flag to be used in said content.

Thank you in advance for any help!

With any download, there is usually a readme.txt file.  Be sure to read it thoroughly and also download any dependencies.  Brown boxes are usually not the result of a missing prop (such as a flag), but a missing model (.sc4model extension),  Make sure you have downloaded all necessary files for any building that is showing brown boxes in the game.

If you truly want to change a flag, then you have to edit the .sc4lot file either with the lot editor or with iLive's reader.  This is somewhat of a more involved process and that question would be better asked over in the SC4 modding forum.

The game doesn't really know that it's a flag that's missing, let alone a Hong Kong flag or whatever it is. Basically, it's a dependency for that lot that's missing. You need to check the dependencies and make sure they're all installed in your plugins folder. Downloading some random flag won't help that particular brown box go away.

If the modder of that lot didn't list it in the dependencies in the readme, you might try downloading the dependencies for his/her other lots.

Missing dependencies are one thing.  Changing the flag is quite simple in many cases.  Simply open the lot in the Lot Editor and replace the flag prop as needed.  Pretty much all of my BAT lots contain a Canadian Flag prop that can be easily changed this way.  You do need a prop for the flag you want, preferably flying on a pole.

I believe I have all dependencies. In fact in the readme (which was so hard to find because it was embedded in the EXE and there were no mention of the dependencies on the file description before you download...) the BSC school pack asks me for a PEG American flag that I do have.

All buildings appear to be BSC related. Everything appears as they should be except the flag pole which is substituted for a brown box.

EDIT - I was able to find and download a flag pack (not listed as a dependency) that contains the HK flag and indeed the brown box disappeared and the flag appears as it should. Why it asked for the HK flag I am still not sure maybe because I have a ton of residential HK BSC skyscrapers? Now to try to replace the flag.

I think that the dependency you're talking about is the "One Flag, Many Nations" mod that requires you to download the "international day of peace" flag pack that Maxis made. So it's a dependency of a dependency.
