Question on bringing tourists in offline mode to my city.

I have made a city in offline mode and started to specialize in tourism. My question is that if i build a train station to bring people straight from outside the city to my casinos, would that work or would that only work if I have build neighboring cities? Same question applies to an airport. I would like to know for sure before I start building my department of transportation and the initial investment. Thank you in advance.

Tourists will come even if you only have one city in the region. It doesn't matter what type of transport you provide them with. Just remember that certain wealth classes only use certain types of transport, for example high wealth sims won't catch the train or bus.

Oh, and if you are in offline mode just save your game before you experiment with unknown things. If they don't work you can always reload.

Great, thank you. So building a train station close to my casinos will bring in more medium wealth sims from outside the city. Am I able to construct one train station and have that be able to bring sims from outside the city?

Remember, Tourists only come from the Region AI.  They don't come from other cities.  

 

Also, some great works supply tourists as well.  Make sure your GW site has a train track going to it for best results.

 

Try to make only a single train station as it gets buggy with two or more.  Try to locate it centrally in your casino area.

 

The train will bring all types of sims into your city if without other cities.  the region will supply everything you need at all times.

Annoyingly, the other cities seem to affect the region AIs ability to produce tourists.  I can join an old, well established MP region and I can get flooded by tourists from day 1.  It is very annoying and slows my city way down.

You´ll get your tourists... just let it mature. Do not forget to run neighbooring cities once in a while so that chages in population and specialization syncronize to all region. People often forget about this, playing same city for hours and making massive changes and even neighboor deals, and then forget to run other cities - that´s the first step for inconsistency across numbers

 

Oh, and tourist do come from neighbooring cities...!
