Back when I ran under Parallels, I never encountered such a thing.  What version are you running?  Try adding the following command line switches to your SC4 shortcut (or ensure they are entered correctly):

-CPUCount:1 -d:Software -CustomResolution:enabled -r[X]x[Y]x32

where [X] and [Y] is your desired resolution (i.e. 1280x800, etc.).

More info on these and other switches you may find useful here.  Also, deleting the SimCity4.cfg in your My Documents plugin folder might help (it regenerates itself on startup).

You might also want to in my previous experience playing under Parallels I never needed to do so.

I have the same problem!-Its because your trying to use software rendering. Whenever I try and run the game under software rendering, I just get a black screen, but with music and interaction in the background. I too am trying to figure out the solution because hardware rendering provides for lower quality graphics...

Really? AFAIK, there's no difference in graphics quality between hardware and software rendering. If you use software rendering, you also won't be able to use any HD terrain textures or other HD custom content. (that is, anything that doesn't look pixelated at the zoom level that's closest to the ground)

Well, technically, I just assumed that it was because of the hardware rendering. Basically what happens is that it looks fine when I enter a city, but with time, and especially if I scroll the screen, the colors start looking off and it gets kind of pixilated. If I zoom out or in, it goes back to normal. If this isn't because of the hardware/software rendering, what could it be? If I can find a solution other that trying to get software rendering to work, then that'd be great. Thanks for the help.

Sometimes I have weird graphical glitches (with the waves, usually) and hitting the G key a couple times usually does the trick. Maybe try that? :???: I'm not really familiar with running the game on a Mac.

Just seeing this post now - I had suffered through this exact same thing after upgrading from Parallels 8 to 9 (I think?)... or maybe it was after the Mavericks update? or some combination of both... It was terrible. I decided to make the switch over to Wine, and haven't looked back.
