Hello, and welcome to Simtropolis! I know this is a long post but contains some good advice to a new player that will be helpful for your enjoyment of SC4.

Take it easy, don't go out and download a GB of plugins all in one night. ;) I would suggest you try and just learn the game before adding lots of mods and whatnot. That being said, it might still be a good idea for you to read this thread titled "" It will really help you a lot in getting started with custom content.

But you might want to download the Network Addon Mod (NAM) right away. Although the amount of new stuff it adds may seem overwhelming, (you can consider it to be the unofficial second expansion pack to the game) one thing that you should start out with is just its improved traffic simulator. The default game's traffic simulator determines routes that Sims take to and from work based on which route has the shortest distance, meaning that things like highways and mass transit will not get much use if sims have to go out of their way to get to them. The NAM's traffic simulator changes this so that Sims will take the fastest route to work, even if it isn't necessarily the shortest distance. You can see that this alone is an invaluable improvement to the game and something I'd strongly recommend having right off the bat.

You can start out with the NAM and only install its traffic simulator, and get familiar with the rest of the game before getting into all the NAM's additional components. When you feel like you're ready for something new, you can run the installer again, have it do a complete installation or something like that, and it will overwrite your previous installation. No need to uninstall and reinstall, just do the installer again.

Another thing you should pay attention to is your budget. It's important to keep it balanced. This is way too hard for someone to figure out how to do on their own IMO; I played this game for six years and could never figure out how to balance the budget and I stopped playing 2 years ago for that very reason. Only recently did I figure it out. What you need to do is make sure you are only giving your civic services and utilities just enough funding that they have barely enough capacity to meet demand. Never give them full funding unless absolutely necessary! Also, your advisors will probably tell you to add all these extra services to your city like schools and fire stations, and police stations long before your city has the income to handle them.Only add them when your income is well over your expenses. And only add a fire station when a fire breaks out.  In general, your advisors don't give you really good advice, so just ignore them. Hopefully I'm being clear; if not, please let me know.

We may have got the cart before the horse here.

What version of the game did you purchase?  Is it on CD or did you download it.  If it is on CD there is a lot of work to getting it up to the current working level (1,1,640).

If you downloaded it from a reputable vendor you should have build 1,1,641 which is the latest and probably last version to come out of Maxis Studio.

Otherwise, the foregoing is quite good advice.

I bought it from steam. I think it's the last version, as the upgrades come automatically. I'm looking Caiuzx italian tutorial on youtube for now. I downloaded the NAM 32. I'm able to make city until 200.000 inhabitans, but i have some problem with employment. I'm trying, and trying, and trying :)

Buona fortuna.  Keeping trying is one of the points of the game.  If you have unemployed Sims they will move out of the city eventually.  However, No-Job Zots can usually be cured by querying the residence to see what the level of of Sims is, and then supplying jobs accordingly, the closer the better.

Do you have any neighboring cities around that city w/ 200,000 people? Regional connections are pretty important in this game and cities will eventually stagnate at one point or another if they are completely isolated and lonely.
