How to prevent your Nuclear Power Plant from spreading radiation when destroyed!

Meltdowns of Nuclear Power Plants can almost never happen if it is staffed by educated Sims, that's what players that use Nuclear Plants (like me) say, but those who do not trust Nuclear Power (because of radiation) will then spot light on another problem that involves spreading radiation, which is: random disasters...

A giant lizard popped up from below my plant, spreading radiation as heck, but thank God, I saved the game from almost a minute before the lizard came and I experimented with all solutions that came across my mind until I came up with this solution that I'm going to tell you now. (this will also work for all types of random disasters, such as meteors, UFOs etc. not just big lizards)

Let's say a meteor, for example, crashed down on your power plant and destroyed it and you opened the radiation map... you know what you will see...

I suppose you might have saved the game before the disaster. Reload the game at that time and pause the game so the disaster won't happen again(by clicking the "pause" button)and click on your Nuclear Power Plant and click on the On/Off button so you can shutdown your power plant. After that click on the "Edit" button and then click on the "bulldoze" button, you will need to bulldoze ALL of your reactors which will leave only the control room ( you can bulldoze that if you want, but make sure that your power plant is off so the reactors won't release radiation when they are bulldozed, Turning off the power plant without bulldozing the reactors will still spread radiation when it is destroyed, and I think bulldozing the power plant directly might spread radiation as well even if it is off( I can tell when the lizard popped up and destroyed the entire power plant at once while it is off and spread radiation, just like bulldozing a power plant directly). So that's the solution, just turn off the power plant and bulldoze the reactors. Now you can resume the game. Once the meteor has crashed on your without-reactors Nuclear Power Plant, or a lizard popped up or a UFO destroyed it, you will see that there is no radiation when you open the radiation map! When the disaster ends, you can re-put the power plant like nothing happened from before.

If you don't have enough simoleons for another Nuclear Power Plant, you can use the simoleons cheat from the sandbox mode! (which is holding ALT+W) It might work for you, I'm not sure. but it worked for me while I was in the standard mode. Besides if I was in sandbox mode, then how did the lizard came randomly ?

I hope this works for you, and sorry if this was longer than needed.

    It seems to me that this would only work in offline mode.

    Ocram's Razor: Though "more things shouldn't be used than are necessary," they're just too fun to pass up! Expect many verbose arguments from me. I will try to write abstracts before or short summaries after from now on.

    Words to live by:
    "Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11

    "Do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34
    "Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you." Matthew 7:1-3

    this is an exploit and not a tactic; with offline mode you can just turn off natural disasters all to gether in the options menu :)

    I was trying to find an actual game mechanic to clean up radiation and prevent it; honestly, what is the hazmat of the fire department for if they don't? I've never seen the hazmat ever be called on. i had EDUCATED sims from grade school to university; yet, it was chernobyl every 20 minutes of playing :D. i was yelling at the sims. "FORGET ABOUT POWER! FLOOD THE REACTORS WITH WATER WHEN TEMPERATURE IS HIGHER THAN YOU ARE, YOU IDIOTS!" I gave up on nuclear and went to solar until i got enough control net to go to fusion and solar crowns. the solar crowns put out as much as any fusion with 0 space wasted (goes on top of megatower).

    I guess they have the reactor's water pumps powered by the reactor, without a battery/gas generator backup, the mistake chernobyl made and power plants still make today. LOL :D. It means that, in order to cool the reactor, it has to give out power, which won't happen in an emergency where you flood it to prevent meltdown. It will instead cool itself and kill all power but start to heat up quickly from no power to run the pumps and become uncontrollable. Uranium rods heat water to create steam, to turn turbines - that's how nuclear power works.

    What you explains here is how a Rule exception (Spread Radiation layer) can be bypassed.

    Save the game : create restor3 point

    -> Disaster happen

    -> Create radiation layer

    Load restore point

    -> Delete radiation sources (reactors)

    Because there are "null" sources of radiation, the building is have the following agent :

    Modules create radiation

    Main building grab rule specifications

    If module plopped -> Use rule from main building and create agent and rule

    ->Agent : use <amount>/<capacity> ressources

    -<RULE> -> if ressource lower than minimum, production stopped

    ->Agent : on destroy, module create "radiation radius" and "radiation layers"

    You're screwed if the meteor strike takes out your nuclear plant.  I had that happen to me in multiplayer mode, there was no escaping.  A quarter of the town is almost useless if you stuck it in a corner.  Let the town run for a few years with nothing in that area but forest (keep replanting) and then start again with it.  All your R will run away because of radiation so forget it unless it's the two lightest bands.  In the darker bands, put the sewage treatment, recycling plant, university, anything where people don't abandon.  Yes, workers will get sick; keep a clinic close by.

    basically, I leave the reactor to explode and use ground scrubber to clean it up, its more challenging and fun.

    Ground srubber, what a great invention, Cleans radiation out of the ground, wow. I think the hemp plant does something similar. We need these in the world along with fusion power plants. Seems possible.
