If your kid started his own successful company, how would you feel?

 

It isn't necessary to be in Silicon Valley for this to happen.  I've met kids while working in various post-secondary institutions that were much smarter than the average bear but were too young to admit to the school.  We did manage, however, on an individual basis, to arrange for them to "audit" courses and have a TA mark their work.  Many of them were able to pass the first year exams on entry and start in second year.

They seem very rare though. Hopefully when they become adults they will establish model businesses that innovate our world rather than hoard money.

If you want people to learn and contribute to society they need a reward. I couldve run a business in diapers.

Intelligence is one thing. Opportunity is another. If opportunity doesnt come to brightlings beer meat and plays will.

Earnest application of intelligence for the grester good thus requires motivation/reward and opportunity to succeed.

This is why i attack families and such archaic constrictions like religion.

Mind you these days i drink to Azula and curse this world.

We need to get rid of this stupid notion parents know best. They usually dont. Intelligence is suffocated in families and stagnant heirarchies of corrupt negligence. But i ramble sirs.

If the smart imaginative kid is from a well off family there's a chance for them stay that way.

If you go to public schools you have to beware.  "Illegitimi non carborundum." and all that.  The aim of these schools is to homogenize everyone to the lowest possible level so that they can say that no child was left behind.

Depends on the public school. I live in the US and there's these things called IB and AP programs that will definitely challenge an academically skilled student. Plus that student will usually find other ways to challenge him/herself by that point.

We had to shoe horn our kids into post-secondary institutions, but eventually it worked.  Daughter got an MRS. and son got a B.A. with extra subjects and a Diploma in Science Lab Technology Supervision.

 

I think by the end of high-school they were both heartily tired of being "educatered".  It didn't take them too long to recognize an academic smorgasbord when it was laid out.  Son, who never was much interested in math and the hard sciences took a course in the Philosophy of Mathematics and finally got it!  After that, there was no stopping him.  His B.A. is in Phil.

My parents broke up before i was born. My mother was a benefits pauper who chose not to work and only had me to get citizenship. I sas homeschooled technically but they never inspected us so most of that time i spent in the bush or reading at the library. I educated myself mostly.

The few years i spent at school before we learnt very slowly lowest common denominator stuff. I went mad and if it hadnt been fot Megan would have run away much earlier.

If you believe families are good you must be lucky and well off. Most ive known are highly dysfunctional. Lisa Simpson is what you find with the smart kids.

Without fodder the mightiest bull shall perish.
