Hey guys & gals. Simcity 4 is one of my favourite games of all time. Ive recently seen the classic Rpg series 'Baldur's Gate' get a re-release in an enhanced edition. Id be on cloud 9 if SC4 was re released.

Woot! Cheers Joe. The Baldurs Gate game was released by a software team called Beamdog. I was not sure if it was a collection of programmers and the like or if it were a division of bioware themselves.

If I had a couple million spare, id buy it :)

The very latest Windows edition is 1,1,641 which is diskless, downloadable from the vendors and includes both published patches.  Which version are you running?

There is a new Aspyr version of Deluxe for OS/X but apparently without the two published patches, which makes it very much contra custom content.

BTW, I am running on Linux (Ubuntu 14.04 with wine-1.7.18) and have little or no problems with 1,1,641.

So what enhancements would you like?  3D?  If you had it, you'd hate it as you wouldn't be able to load the big cities.  The overhead for 3D with a free camera eats processors like there was nothing else running let alone a big simulation.  See SC 2013 for the limitations on capability.  Oh yes, SC 2013 is also MMP.  Not suitable for this kind of game, I believe, since you can only have 1 player per city.

I would like a slight add:  Full freight capability with distribution centres, etc.  This would probably slow the simulation down to a crawl all by itself.

    Hey nonny moose.

Im running straight out of the box, none patche version but unsure which version im currently running.

Personally, I think the graphics are perfect (sc4).

Id just like to see a more stable platform on 64 bit. Also having mentioned it, a buff up 64 bit should surely allow for greater use of modern RAM speeds.

Id love to see, postal services, I guess you could faction that as piece of frate and map it thus. Pavements & paths, free style park creator. I did havd a huge grab bag of wannabe improvements for SC13, as a lot of what I mightb surgest would just be represented by graphs and overlays.

Likewise, I think that overlays is the keystone that SC13 uses to ease up graphical representation and crawling processor speeds.

Not to mention a variety of buildings and the like. Maybe a preload, addon manager. There so many great ideas, buildings and mods here.

Also, more signs of ageing within buildings etc. Ive been playing SC4 on and off, since it was released and Im STILL exploring.

I played simcity 2013....and it made me feel...unclean.

    /BIOnode.

Post script: please bear with me as Im using an android to post with, so my editing sucks.

"Straight out of the box" implies you are missing two published patches.  EP1 which is a bug fix released almost immediately after the publication of the game, and the BAT Textures Fix which allows night light textures to be seen on custom content buildings.

With these two fixes, you will be able to run any custom content on any of the exchanges.

On the other hand if you have downloaded the newer version from an authorized dealer including Steam you don't need these patches.

SC4 has been made plenty stable by the modding community.  Looking through the forums, you'll find a few tricks to keep it from crashing, how to get it to cooperate with modern video cards, and the ability to use more RAM than originally possible.  Keep browsing.  And welcome to Simtropolis.

Baldur's Gate was indeed a fantastic game series btw

Take it slow with the mods.  There are some incompatibilities so you should test after each set of new plugins have been added.  Only add them a few at a time.  Keep organized, you want to exercise good control for editing and updating purposes.  I actually keep two sets of files: the original downloads in one structure and the derived plugins in the game area.

Careless insertion of plugins is often fatal.

Thank you for the advice and will keep it. I do find it a bit difficult to browse the forums as I am using an android device. First port of call, mod the roads, which is one of my bugbears :)

    Cheers guys.

Android?  You can't run the game on that ARM processor.  Suggest you do your searching from the PC you run the game on.

It is a little small.  I guess it is also 32-bit.  So you won't see the 4Gig patch because it should not be offered when you install the NAM.  How do you transfer files between the ARM processor and the X86?  Thumb drive is what I would use.

Consider a memory upgrade.  The NAM has loading problems with small memories.

Also, NAM 32 requires a current version Java Compiler if you want a custom controller.  If not you get the whole thing which is quite large.
