How long does it take to complete the great works?

 

I've been able to start building the arcology but I've never been able to finish it. And really the only reason I don't finish it is because I don't have enough resources of some kind to complete it.

If you're playing solo, a LONG time, with friends? still quite the time  

But it all depends on how much you export/create. If you have good income you can import the products needed and send them there, otherwise you have to create them, for example i made myself nearly bankrupt for the arcology great works (solo) but atleast it's all done except for the TV's since i can't create those in the town i currently work.

So if you're playing solo, try to create as much as you can, even import if you can afford it and send it all to the great works.

Recycling centers provide free alloy metal and plastic. just built a solar farm using two cities I own in the region

I just import it all in trade depots/the train depot one.

 

Costs about a million a day to run at max "output".

 

I will say I made the international airport and it was the biggest waste of time ever (its the only Great Work i've built yet). No effect on tourists at all. (Ok, ~100 more high wealth tourists a day)

I typically go with the space center for high tech industry and tourism.  It's OK.  The great works were a good idea but they were clearly not exicuted well.

 

For example, why weren't the great works connected by rail and boat?  That seems like a HUGE oversight to me.  That would have dramatically cut down the traffic on the highways and would have improved the transfer of construction freight and passengers.

 

Missed oppertunity.  Oh well...

Very true. I was peev'ed when I saw the international airport had a train connection to 3 of the 4 cities in "my chunk" of the region. But mine was the one without the connection.

 

Also for whatever reason cars seem to back up at the entrance of the Intl Airport? Seems like an unnecessary choice. If someone drove there dont "realistically" make them wait longer.

I always build the Solar Farm.It gives enough power for all of my cities in the region. Typically for me it takes approx 4hrs human time to build it.

They're all kinda crap, really.

 

International Airport doesn't send very many tourists, they all come via car, and who cares about having another place to ship freight to.

 

Space Center doesn't send very many tourists, it's bugged out on many maps, and doesn't give a significant amount of tech. It does give you some money every once in a while, but who cares really. The occasional virus event is also a pain in the butt.

 

Solar Farm is kinda useful if you want free power, but it's not much different than building a bunch of power plants in a separate utilities city. The "there's a fire" event is also annoying.

 

The Arcology can provide workers/shoppers/students, but so can a neighboring city. Pretty useless too, IMO.

 

We need a Great Works overhaul mod.
