I just came back from my laptop to show you a super-sized region, Athinai. It is 61.440x51.2km (3,145.728km sq). That is actually 60x50 pixels on config.bmp, and it didn't even crash my game!

This is the currently developed part of Montaukshire. The rest of the region is much larger, and the region is expandable, as well.

SC4, Forevermore!

Currently preoccupied with architecture school...lurking with caution.

these are great, whats your regional population dusktrooper?

im not to good with large cities, and dont use any mods so my traffic is at the rubbish maxis preset. but i did manage a population of about 200000 on the smallest tile which i was quite pleased about.

When you start a new region on Sim City 4 (I hope you all know how to do that!), you now exit the game.  For example's sake, let's name the region Tau Island.  Then you open My Documents/Sim City 4/Regions/Tau Island.  Inside that you'll find two files, and one of them will be config.  Open that with a draw or paint program and you can now change the size of your city.  Here are the rules for changing config files.
Red creates small cities and they must be 1x1 pixel to work.
Green creates medium cities and they must be 2x2 pixels to work.
Blue creates large cities and they must be 4x4 pixels to work.
But, there are a few strange things with config.  If you config. a square, when you enter Sim City 4, your region will be way longer than you planned, since it seems that tiles are longer one way than another.
If you want any more information go to this website:
This is the main site of simtropolis that shows how to custom region size.

And I must say that these regions are incredible!  How can any of you have that much patience to terrafrom and build?  Congratulations!39.gif39.gif39.gif10.gif

Yes, but only before you incorporate it... Also, what does expandable region mean? how do you expand regions?

I don't know for certain what they are refering to when they say expandable but I am assuming they mean that they will add to the config.bmp file when they want to add more city squares.

I know this is possible as I have done it myself on ocassion (mainly as a test).  adding city squares to the region map will not affect the rest of the region, although altering the existing city squares will reset all the altered city squares to default (ie flat) terrain and demolish the cities that were there.

what I am saying is that you can make four small city squares into one medium or one medium into four smalls but the terrain and cities (if any) will be all reset.

I dont have any pics to show right now (as I am not on my personal computer) but I am working on a 23x23 region in preparation for a city journal.  I think that should be more than enough for me, and hey, if I need more room I can always expand!40.gif

NO you are not allowed to post oversized pics.  the best way to scale a pic down is to use some kind of picture editing software.  I use IrfanView which is freeware and available on the web (do a search).  you can convert pretty much any picture format into any other picture format (ie bitmap into jpg), resize, resample, crop, and do all kinds of stuff.

if your picture would look better bigger you can always try making a mosaic of multiple 800x600 pics.

making mosaics takes practice and patience but basically you need to take two pictures (or more) and post them one right after the other in your post, making sure to set picture boarders to 0.  if the the two edges of the pics match up (that is the hard part) it will look like one giant picture.  scan some of the more popular CJ's and you will see some mosaics.
