My personal suggestion for Mods

Hello,

OK in the very beginning of the post I would like to apologize if I offend anyone... This is just my personal suggestion.

Regarding dependencies can't we do one thing...

option1:

The developers in their read me file or plugin description mention that to make the following Mod, codes or help from these these (dependencies) files have been taken

and then make 1 single Mod file to download for us.

In this way we players specially newbies have to download only 1 file and the link to dependency files also makes it sure that their copyright is maintained.

option2:

Or interested mod programmers or developers can use the creative commons license to allow their work to be modified and used on other mods by other developers.

Those are just my personal opinions so I am sorry if I am wrong...

But today I spent a hour to download the main file and its 12 dependencies and then getting biggy biggy brown boxies :(

Anyway thank you :)

The present system has worked well for something like a decade now.  It isn't broken, so I see no reason to fix it.

It is clearly a learning experience. and it is suggested that rather than trying to get such a large group to march to the beat of your drum that you get in step.

As my parents would say, "Get over it.  It is just growing pains."

Actually, many superior park sets like BSC and (to name a few) have relatively few Dependencies, considering their scope and application. My biggest peeve is the wait time for all the stuff to load in the parks menu when trying to swap between a bunch of different lots (while I still remember what I'm trying to do!)

Installing mods, tracking down dependencies, weeding out obsolete files, eliminating duplicate files, applying fixes and managing ones plugins is hard tedious work. Sometimes I've had to download a main file and at least a dozen dependencies (some of which can interfere with other modded features you already have) and then download the dependencies of some of the primary dependencies, and even download tertiary dependencies.

    Get used to it.

    Dear sir/madam/whoever will read this!

    This profile is now defunct.

Computer problems and issues with accessing my Imageshack account meant My SC4 CJ Scrapbook was lost and utterly irretrievable. This setback put me off SC4 for many months.

Apologies for the inconvenience and for the lost pictures.

But that SC4 itch did not go away and it had to be scratched! I have started afresh with a new account here- The British Sausage

The URS is a spiritual successor to the SC4 CJ Scrapbook.

With this update this will be the last time I visit my original Simtropolis account- admin/mods feel free to remove it or do whatever you need to do. I have no further use for the Ln X (BLANKBLANK) account.

With regards, Miles Saunders-Priem aka. Ln X aka. The British Sausage

Is it just me or has this come up more frequently in recent days than at other times? We had a lot of discussion about dependencies recently but the answer is always the same for a very good reason. The system is okay. It has a learning curve, yes, but it's not so steep you couldn't mount it.

Having dependencies is the proper way to go, but perhaps it isn't done as gracefully as possible.

There should be a requirement that mods on ST need to have links to dependencies on ST as well. There are so many mods here that are unusable because the links to the old ST platform are dead, or they are merely named and finding them is a nightmare.

Also, dependency packs ought to have installers and cleanitols attached to prevent clutter and redundancy in future versions.

No, there is a large number of new members, probably bouncing from SC 2013.  These days most players are not programmers so fail to catch on to the idea of object reuse right away.  The "now" generation is used to having everything handed to it, and having to work a little is generally a strange idea.

The idea of dependencies is the same as subroutine/object libraries and invokes a couple of pretty standard principles of OOD and OOP.  I've been a programmer for so long it seems like forever, but I would have had trouble with this idea in my early 20's too.
