Railway bridges not high enough

Hi all,

I have an issue with railway bridges. No matter what I try, they never seem high enough to allow ferries to cross underneath them. I tried a lot of stuff but nothing seems to work. Any solutions?

It probably depends on the terrain height on the river banks. Assuming you have tried to raise the height with the slider in the bridge window, do you have some type of slope mod - perhaps the BridgeHeightMod - that forces the terrain to remain flat? These could create such a situation.

If the NAM is being used, that's a very strong possibility, as the Bridge Height Mod is selected by default, and players need to run the Custom Installation in order to deselect it.

I run the bridge height mod from the NAM and I don't have this problem very often.  Try making the water deeper.

any specific reason not to be just the opposite?

There is no real need to remove this option.  Just adjust the terrain accordingly.  You may have to build up the bridge approach and/or lower the water depth.  These are normal civil engineering approaches, so don't be lazy just do it.  Most municipalities won't care if this destroys a few properties.

This is another issue about which the NAM Team was unanimous.  Without this option, it is often very difficult to place bridges, and  it is sometimes impossible to place them the way you want them.  This option enormously simplifies the process of bridge building, and also makes it possible to build a wider variety of bridges than the game would otherwise allow.  Yet nothing is lost by using this mod; Moose gives a good description in his posts of various ways to build the bridges you want while still using this mod.

Thanks, Z.  You know, players don't often seem to want to get in there and do a little civil engineering when it is really necessary.  There is little or no hesitation on sculpting the local landscape in Real Life situations.

I've been considering keeping all my railways at a specific grade through cuts and embankments now that we have all that nice stuff in the NAM.  The single lot height changers are particularly useful even though they seem to be more of an RHW accessory.

As weird as it may sound, an upgrade to NAM 32 prerelease 1  seems to have solved this issue. I could build a few railway bridges and none of them was too low for ferries.

Perfect ... just to be clear that being this way a few more exemplar tuning get stuck to the fact of using or not using NAM.

And as I said before ... things change!
