I reccomend the ARDEN controller linked above, a lot of dependencies but it's really worth having those brilliant trees in your game.

If for some reason you don't want to use ARDEN, try out the controller, which I am using now. I don't like it as much as ARDEN, but it produces some stunning results, and there is a bit more variation in flora which can create some interesting forests

I really dont know what i did wrong but after isntalling that first suggested one (OMG THE DEPNDSSSS) when i go to lay down trees, it only has down trees in SOME spots...and almost all of them are either "weeds" or really ugly low resolution yellow trees, and nothing eles...if its next to water..nothing diffrent.

For the most part it doesn't lay down ANY tree's and when it does... its the tan colored weed or a yellow skinny tree....thats it =(

The ARDEN controller works best with the Berner Oberland terrain mod, the trees best match the terrain and the altitude.

    Dear sir/madam/whoever will read this!

    This profile is now defunct.

Computer problems and issues with accessing my Imageshack account meant My SC4 CJ Scrapbook was lost and utterly irretrievable. This setback put me off SC4 for many months.

Apologies for the inconvenience and for the lost pictures.

But that SC4 itch did not go away and it had to be scratched! I have started afresh with a new account here- The British Sausage

The URS is a spiritual successor to the SC4 CJ Scrapbook.

With this update this will be the last time I visit my original Simtropolis account- admin/mods feel free to remove it or do whatever you need to do. I have no further use for the Ln X (BLANKBLANK) account.

When you start messing with tree controllers, it is probably best to have a chosen terrain mod that goes with it installed first or simultaneously.  Changing all this will usually require starting a new region.

The ARDEN tree controller comes with three controllers, Coast, River and Inland (as well as evergreen but that works with any of the three). Where were you trying to plant the trees? It sounds like you were using either the coast or river controller at an elevation that the trees do not grow. Try switch around the controller and see what happens, then report back here.

Also are you using a terrain mod? If you are not using the LK Appalachian or any of Gobias' terrains, make sure you get the Seasonal Flora Patch

What makes you say this? I haven't had to do that

Bitter experience.  Maybe I didn't choose the right set.

Rule 1 with any mod of relatively advanced nature: Check the READMES!

The Aerden tree controller isn't hard to use, but it does require following the rules closely. Use in conjunction with the extra cheats mod is recommended to easily remove remnants of prior tree controllers (incl. MAXIS default), which can cause crashes if left behind.

you could also use the non-seasonal versions, for greater ease of use and no ugly weeds in low elevations/moist areas

I would if i could get arden to work  which i explained i cant right above ur post

Someone didn't read the README.  With tree controllers you HAVE to read the documentation if you it work, or even understand which option you're installing in the case of vortext's which has multiple options.  If you're complaining about how it looks, well, you chose that one out of his several possible options.

    *sigh*

somene didnt read my other post.

sure i did.  It looked a little something like this:

I really dont know what i did wrong but after isntalling that first suggested one (OMG THE DEPNDSSSS) when i go to lay down trees, it only has down trees in SOME spots...and almost all of them are either "weeds" or really ugly low resolution yellow trees, and nothing eles...if its next to water..nothing diffrent.

Which sound to me like you are describing something like this:

    05%20riverfall.jpg?psid=1

Which is the controller working exactly how it's supposed to. (I took that pic during the beta testing phase, so i don't think it quite matches the final product).

Now, and here's where it might get tricky for you, if you open the readme (just a hint: it's called read-me.pdf in the download.  you know, in case you're having trouble finding it) and scroll to page 4 it shows you your instal options.

when i go to lay down trees, it only has down trees in SOME spots...and almost all of them are either "weeds" or really ugly low resolution yellow trees, and nothing eles...if its next to water..nothing diffrent.

Allow me to introduce you to the caption at the top of the page:

...both the river and coast controller come in two flavors.  The extended versions have meadows and shore flora, the regular do not.

The screenshots in the top row, which look suspiciously like my pic, and sound suspiciously what you're whining about as being 'broken' show you what the river controller looks like. If you would like more trees, like in the bottom pictures, then maybe you should take the River Regular controller out and put the Coast Extended controller in.  Just because you don't like the option that you picked doesn't mean it's somehow magically broken.

So next time, read the readme first.

Tried all 3 options and they all looked the same, (yes i replaced the version before) and as you can read i never "complained" about it not working, I said i must have done somthing wrong, so lose your immature attitude, and secondly. it doesnt look like your picture, it litteraly had 1 tree and 1 weed, going over and over and over again....and i know the trees are installed because i didnt get any brown boxes and I also have around 80 ploppable trees in my menu after installing it....

Only thing I could have done wrong was with this floral patch thing, because for someome who is new to modding this game, the instuctions were extremely vague on that part. The floral patch ahs 100 diffrent options, the only one that seemd close to what the instructions said was the second to last on on the list "all maxis and somthing somthing" this is the one I selected.

You must have picked the river seasonal version of the Arden tree controller. IMO the best results occur with the inland evergreen version which is far more compatible with hilly and/or mountainous areas, however at the lowest elevations you mainly get subtle varieties of maple/lirches/birch.
