Sim City 4 Installation Issue - Windows 8 Pro

I'm stuck at 48.32% with the second disc... it's been about an hour inside the darn thing and it won't do anything... XD

I really want to play this oldie but goodie game but I don't think it will work with my Windows 8.0 Computer running an AMD 64 bit processor loaded with 32 RAM and 8 CPUs. It's just way too powerful...

No, I'm not talking about Sim City Classic... I got that thing to run with DOSbox...

Sim City 4 is like a huge clock that has a thousand gears. Either they all work or they all don't. You got a 1/1000 shot of it working on your computer perfectly... the way the designers made the game.

And in my case, it failed miserably.

Unless I'm doing something wrong.

the game is already half installed... and stopping the installation will take like... forever.

Plus, I believe it's also on the registry by now. I don't have my father anymore to give me money or my key for a new Windows 8 Pro to wipe the registry to retry the install... nor can I just go and purchase it myself.

I can't get a job either... I'm disabled... and the state is forbidding it. :(

Any suggestions?

It may be possible that your disc is scratched or damaged.  That has always been the case for me when the installation just gets stuck.  You may be better off trying to purchase the game online (like Steam) where it can never get damaged  ;)

Sorry to worry you all, It appears that the "Please insert Disc 2" dialog box was hidden behind the silly install picture. Clicking ok made it work it's magic.

Just found it a second ago.

Well, if you have successfully loaded from disk you now need the EP1 patch fixes.  Read the download page and be sure you get the right one.  Then, if you are into custom content you'll need the night-lights fix to take your game to build level 1,1,640.

However, for not much money, you can get rid of the CDs altogether by purchasing the digital download game from Amazon, Gamersgate, Steam or (ugh!) Origin.

Then why are you mucking about with the CDs?  It is too much like work getting that stuff installed then patched.  If anything happens to your machine you get to do it all over when a simple copy of the digital download installer on a thumb drive can save all that.

I do have one question about the digital downloads.  Will they only allow so many "re-installs".  Lets say my computer crashes 3 times and I have to reinstall the game as many times.  Is there a limit to how many reinstalls the digital download allows?  Just curious.  Sometimes I somewhat old fashion.  When I buy something, I like to have something physical in my hands. :whatevs:

Don't know about Steam or Origin.  Got mine from GamersGate and the installer is simply a copy of the disks essentially.  I've used it at least a dozen times with no interaction with the selling site.  If you avoid the DRM guys, you should have no problems.

Thanks for the answer, A Nonny Moose.  Something to consider for the future.
