Difference between a BAT and a Mod

Ive seen the two, i think i understand the main concept of a Mod. A Mod is usually just eye candy with some extras inside. I dont know what a BAT is though. I played simcity months ago and had only known of the term Mod, i dont remember seeing the term BAT. Would anyone care to explain the difference between the two?

BAT stands for Building Architect Tool, but it often refers to custom buildings and props. Here's a general overview of the definitions we use:

  • Every model that is a building is a BAT.
  • Everything that's not a building, but still a static object like a tree, a parked car or a streetlight, is a prop.
  • All BATs are placed upon lots; an predefined area with a collection of objects and textures. These are the things that grow or can be plopped.
  • All objects that move (cars, planes, trains, boats) are called automata.
  • Everything that modifies the game is neither a BAT, prop or lot is a mod. Think about mods that change your terrain textures (terrain mods), mods that add extra automata (automata mods) or the all-famous Network Addon Mod.

    OH okay i see. So a building is a BAT, and a MOD is anything added to the game from an outside source such as simtropolis. Thats great to know. Thanks! :thumb:

    Yeah, it's important to distinguish lots,Mods from BATs. For me, I can make many lots using LotEditor but not BATs. We need tools like 3dsMAX or gmax to make models, then to form a BAT. As for the MODs, I shall never be able to make one.. :kitty:
