Cannot install SKU2Update

Dear people,

 

As for now I only used the RealHighway Mod Version 5.0.0 from NAM. I would like to install the full NAM Mod Version 31.2 to enjoy all facilities this mod is giving us. But, for that I first need to update Simcity 4 to 1.1.638.0. My game is running in Europe. At the moment I have Version 1.0 Deluxe, last updated at 9-3-03.

 

I downloaded the UPDATE_SKU2_TO_P1_B638.EXE from SC4DEVOTION on this link https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?page=16. But, when trying to install it the following message appears at first at 21% (processing: SimCity_1.dat"):

 

"Old File not found. However, a file of the same name was found. No update donce since file contents do not match." 

 

So, then I tried to install the update SKU1 for the North American version. This update worked fine and I didn't get any error. Congratulations! You have installed the update fine, it said. Now, when I go to the Maxis/SimCity 4 Deluxe folder the files are all from 2003 with the old size.

 

Going with the cursor over my current .exe file, it says I am running Version 1.1.610.0.

 

See the attached file for the message poping up and how the folder looks after "updating" with the north american edition.

Does anyone have any idea how to solve this problem?

1.  To use any of these updates you must have loaded the game from CD.  If you are using a torrent, it is cracked and has no space for the patches.

 

2.  If you have a game downloaded from any of the legitimate sites such as amazon, then you don't need these patches.

 

Use windows explorer to find your executable (SimCity 4.exe) and hover your mouse over it.  It will report your build version.  If it is 1,1,641 you have the digital download version.  If not, please report the version you have.

My SimCity 4.exe file gives me Version 1.1.610.0 as my current version. I have no idea if this is downloaded or from a cd. I got the game on CD since the moment it was on the market, but it could be that I downloaded it after loosing the cd. Do you have any idea which version this is?

 

If this is a wrong version, I can buy the game only. But, is it possible to remain my cities and plugins then?

Well, that is an unpatched deluxe.  However if it runs without the CD in the drive it has been cracked.

 

Since you don't have the CD anymore, I suggest you purchase the game from an authorized vendor.  AFAIK these are Amazon, Gamersgate, Steam, and Origin.  The first two sell the game with no DRM, and it can be installed and used as if it was loaded at home.  The others use DRM and want you to log on to their site in order to start the game.  Your choice.

 

In all cases you will get version 1,1,641 which is deluxe, fully patched, and diskless.  With this version, any and all custom content can be used.  I suggest starting with all the files on the STEX with the word 'fix' in the title, then NAM 31.2.  The fixes handle some rather annoying bugs, and NAM 31.2 extends the road capabilities beyond what the game designers had, and corrects a serious problem with the road network controller.  You may want to do a custom install on this, as otherwise the learning curve on some packages will be quite steep.
