"Take a Walk on the Wild Side"

I'll leave it to you guys to find it on youtube.   It was fairly radical stuff for 1972.

We can inspire others through witness so that one grows together in communicating. But the worst thing of all is religious proselytism, which paralyzes: “I am talking with you in order to persuade you.” No. Each person dialogues, starting with his and her own identity. The church grows by attraction, not proselytizing.    - Pope Francis

The one major thing I've always admired about Lou was that I felt he wrote and performed songs for himself, never being concerned with putting out a 'top ten hit' just to put out a 'top ten hit'. Allot of today's music seems to only be 'sales' or dollar-driven (Miley Cyrus & Justin Beiber come to mind) pablum.

His voice will surely be missed.

That's been going on for decades and is nothing new.

^ That's the whole point, perhaps, that there is nothing new.

There really has been no new music since the late 1960s.  All this raucous, over-amplified guitar noise isn't really anything new at all.  Les Paul said most of the last words in this genre.  It is time for something new, and I don't mean some foolish jerk wiggling his body in acrobatic ways.  Everything these days is derivative.

The word 'genius' is thrown around all too easy these days.

In the case of Lou Reed, it fits perfectly.

I found this quote from Lou in the article linked below.

I think it sums things up quite eloquently...

"I don't expect anything at all from anything and I never have," he said. "I'm not trying to change anybody's mind about anything. I'm not trying to win anybody over. I'm happy to get up in the morning. I can tie my shoelaces. I haven't got hit by a car. I just love the music and sound and wanted to make it better, so if someone else wanted to hear it, they'd get some bang for the buck."

^ That about sums it up.  Lou didn't lust after fame and fortune, he just was Lou.

A lesson for the fame-chasing money grubbers of today.
