Hello,

I used to play SC4 about 6 years ago and dusted it of again this week. Installed the NAM and DAMN etc. and mods. All working fine.

Found out how to make S-curves in streets through the forum.

Now I have seen many pics with Diagonal STREETS but I cannot figure out how to make them myself. Searched this and the sc4 forum for it. But no luck. All the other roads etc I can drag diagonally, just not streets :(

You actually can't drag diagonal streets in the normal way. We exploited an override trick that turns a stretch of 90 curves into a diagonal road. What you actually do is dragging lots of 90 curves switching from left to right curves.

If you don't have that particular item, yes.  But no problem.  Just use the custom install and add that one checkbox.

Just did it and it now works :) hurray ............ now only to solve some "slowness" issues on my 1 year old 4 core win 7 64 but machine. Have tried running it on one core only but that brought the core to 100% usage :( am afraid it will overheat :(

SC4 uses the equivalent of a single core no matter how many cores you spread it across.  And you don't have to worry about SC4 causing your CPU to overheat - it doesn't put that type of stress on it, even at 100%.  In fact, if you look at your CPU temperatures, you'll see that they don't move up much at all when you run SC4.

What specifically are your slowness issues?

It lags, or I should now say it lagged ..... when scrolling in build up areas and zooming.

I solved it by changing from hardware rendering to software rendering. It now works as a charm with everything set at high even :P ....... though I put automata etc at medium now because it became to much for the eye :(

Stop running in Cheetah all the time.  Slow down and enjoy the animation.  You will also find it stresses your system less.

BTW, I hardly ever scroll.  I hop.  You can hop to a new screen area with a right click.  If you want to move to a new screen area, try clicking on the mini-map in the GUI.  About the only scrolling I do is following a transport trace with the route query turned on.

I never run in Cheetah :P

Thx for the right click hint :)

Now that I have your attention anyway .....

When I plop RC zones I sometimes have difficulty making them "snap" in the right direction. I know about CTRL but this doesnt help with snapping the zone. Any other keys I could use?

Alt (rotates zones), Shift (removes streets), and (for me at least), never zoning in giant blocks at a time because it's too restrictive and inflexible.

Amen.  I also hand zone pretty much every single lot.
