Urban Redevelopment Project

Hey everyone. In this post, I'm going to cover how things went with my urban development project.

One of the cool features with SimCity 2013, is the ability to claim cities that have been abandoned by previous mayors. I've really enjoyed the Edgewater Bay and Granite Lake regions, so I used the filters to search for cities that were abandoned in these regions. I came across an abandoned city in Mason Hill and quickly claimed it.

Here are some screen shots of what the city looked like when I first claimed it:

As you can see, the city has no real direction, and was having real water, sewage, and crime problems. Despite these issues, the city was making a profit. I started with laying down roads, and crafting a strategy for the city.

Here's a peak at the early stages of redevelopment:

To see how the rest of the project turned out, stay tuned!

    Here's what happened next...

One of the first things I did was create a road network for the city:

Here is an overall shot of the region after the road network was completed:

I zoned out the blocks and after some development, I expanded the wind farm around the mount:

I took some time to checked out the other cities in the region. This region lacked a gambling hotspot, so I decided to create a casino strip:

The city starts becoming a hub for business and residents:

That's it for now. I'll post up one final post so you can see how everything turned out. :)

Here is the final post! I really like how this city came out. It's a place where you can work, have fun, or travel to the top of the mount to look over the bay.

After the new stadium was built, casinos start making some serious cash. The Sleek Casino and Elegant Casino added some rooms for guests:

    And at night:

Keeping tourists in the city really takes off, and the strip vertically expands:

    The entertainment district:

Here is a shot of the region:

Thanks for checking out this project!

The windfarm on the hill looks funny. I tried getting a mansion on there, but haven't succeeded with it.

The whole, fix somebody's junk-city, angle sounds really fun. I might try it some time. Where there other players in the region and did you interact with them?

Some people liked the wind farm, others didn't. :)

There were others in the region - you can see that in the picture. I didn't interact with them though.

Not bad, in fact I really liked the results. ^w^

((NOTE: Though, like reReticulated Spline said, the wind farm does a look a bit too out of place with the skyscrapers and hi-rises. ^^; Though, that's just my personal opinion.))

Great modified grid layout! Are you an actual urban designer by any chance?
