Wow, that mosaic in one of the pictures is the largest and probably the best I've ever seen on simtropolis! Maybe its just because its thinner that it looks really ttall, but either way I love it! Great work! Again, I love the website pictures about the Starchitect watch, and I look forward to future updates. 29.gif

T-h-i-s- i-s a-w-s-o-m-e-! This CJ really reads like a newspaper! I can't wait to see the before/after of the pictures that you were showing near the cathedral and City Hall. I want growth. But I do think that it should be a sustainable growth, since it looks like Flat Field takes the lead preserving the enviroment, it proves that because of the big park. Rock on!!

    District Overview: Eureka Point

Several miles south of Downtown, a small suburban community sits on the shore of Eureka Bay, overlooking a small island now settled by some of the city's richest residents. This community is called Eureka Point.

    EurekaPointOverviewBack.jpg

Eureka Point is a small district, with few residents and fewer employers. It's the best example of a bedroom community in all of the city of Eureka. The majority of the residences are single-family detached homes of varying sizes. Due to their suburban location and the relative exclusivity of the neighborhood, homes in Eureka Point fetch higher average prices than most others in the city.

    DunesView.jpg

Eureka Point is especially known for its two main natural landmarks: Eureka Point Island and The Eureka Dunes.

Eureka Point Island is a small, natural mound of sand and palm trees now settled by the most wealthy families in all of Eureka. Whereas the new money business tycoons like Frederick Grealy of Eastport Heavy Shipping buy luxury apartments and houses in more central sections of the city, the old money political and business dynasties settle on the outskirts of town in Eureka Point---particularly on Eureka Point Island.

The island has a small number of large luxury apartment buildings---owned by wealthy Eurekans who travel more than they stay in the city---as well as giant beach mansions occupied by full-time wealthy residents.

Wealthy families like the Montgomerys enjoy gorgeous views of the Bay from their own private beaches. The beaches of Eureka Point are some of the largest, most impressive stretches of sand in the entire region.

The other natural landmark in Eureka Point is a more public attraction called The Eureka Dunes. The Dunes is a giant expanse of sand formed by the rising and falling tides of Eureka Bay, and serves as a major tourist attraction. Nearly a million people---local residents and tourists---visit The Dunes every year.

Built just to the East of The Dunes is a small museum, dedicated to the study and preservation of the landmark. Preservation can be a tough task, too, since so many people walk, run and play in the sand every year. Periodically The Dunes area is closed for sand recovery and grooming.

One final attraction of note in Eureka Point can be found in a small cemetery in the center of the district. Named Madison Cemetery, one of the most famous Eurekans of all is buried there.

    PointTomb.jpg

Theresa Bullon was the first female mayor of Eureka (there have since been two more), and also regarded as the city's finest ever. She helped guide the city through a major economic crisis 30 years ago. Escaping financial ruin, paving the way for future expansion and securing economic stability, Bullon earned a reputation as a master civic leader and a brilliant politician. She died of liver disease five years ago at the age of 84.

Many local dignitaries, including current mayor Richard Hiro, visit the tomb periodically to pay their respects and honor the storied legacy of Eureka's greatest leader.

Great update, Eureka Point sounds like a very nice place to live (minus the influx of invading tourists, of course 2.gif).

Hey, i missed one! Flat Fields very nice, it reminds me of central park (not that Ive ever been there31.gif)
The apartments fit just right, not too tall or modern, but then again I dont think you would allow the European Tile-set into your cities3.gif
I really like Eureka point, a perfect high-class suburb, or should I say district. You have avoided the plopped look that many beaches have. Good work44.gif

    Today's Hot Topic

    Crash.jpg

(You asked for it [repeatedly], and now you'll get it. The transformation of Eureka from coastal town to harbor metropolis begins with the foreign economic collapse of Year 200. The future is now, as they say...)

Great CJ. I will have to brazenly steal some of your ideas.
I loved your Adventures In New Urbanism CJ.
This current CJ is a marked improvement on what was already impressive.

    I am happy. Are you?

Great updates! The average home prices in Eureka Point are high compared to the rest of the region. I wonder what the home prices are like on Eureka Point Island, though! Gotta be expensive!

I wonder what effect the stock market crash will have on the future of Eureka. All I know is we can expect to be kept well informed with great images and articles 1.gif

    The Crash's Wake: An Interview

    HiroTop.jpg

Below is an extended excerpt from that interview...

    ------------------------------------

And as a brief aside, I want to thank (again) everyone for their comments and compliments. You guys make the work completely worthwhile.

Oh, and in case anyone is wondering, the man in the photos is not actually Richard Hiro, the mayor of Eureka. The images are of Fujio Mitarai, President and CEO of Canon, Inc. I think he's very mayorly. Let's just say that he's acting in the role of Richard Hiro for the purposes of this CJ, and if he keeps up the good work, he might just take home an Oscar.

I have to agree with you on him looking mayorly. I was wondering who he was. It only adds to this CJ of it feeling very realistic and not just something made up. In this major change are you going to be changing any of the landscape (ie buldozing some mountains)?

Things are starting to change for Eureka, looking forward to see how Hiro will handel these new refugees.
Nice diversity in your different suburbs and as always very well presented both in text and images.

It is of course a very exceptional advantage that those immigrating are well-educated and upper class people.  As we all know, in most places, massive immigration brings along other types of socio-economic structures.
Very good blog though.  Now let's see the development boom starting in Eureka! 44.gif

Great interview, and good casting! 18.gif

I can't wait for the boom. (That sounds kinda crazy... 22.gif )

PS. I like the critical self-blaming (can't figure out the good english word) paragraph on Tuesday's Eurekanist's. It is so true, however we still can't do anything about it.

Sorry, sendarrow, but the actual blog is not for public viewing. It defeats the purpose, really, since the blog entries are part of the story as it unfolds---and shouldn't be viewed all at once.

Thanks again to everyone who has posted various compliments!
