Density

Can someone please tell me how to increase the density of your buildings? I have upgraded the roads, have a fully equipped police station, fire station, hospital, school, numerous parks but most my buildings are still tiny little bungalows or 2 story homes. I need more sims as I can't fill the vacant jobs! Thanks.

its to do with happiness. they need to be happy for quite some time for density in the area to increase.

 

click on a house and youll see the density info.

maybe you dont have any parks of shops (commercial) nearby, or your tax rate is too high.

 

they also need enough space for the big building to be placed.

if you cant fit a big park or a school in that spot, then a 3d building wont fit either.

That and also when you click on the Town Hall icon and on the right of the screen there are 2 important icons there one looks like a bar graph the other a happy face both tell you how happy the building is..  The happy face one depicts the building as either red=unhappy to green happy.  The bar graph one shows a giant pillar if it is tall and green then there is a likely hood of it upgrading.. The last thing if you click on the building and you see the occupants going on about road density, then you know that they are ready to go to the next level..
