India, Hygeine, and Corruption.

Lots of accusations but no proof.

The chain of custody on the poisoned oil starts with a grocer, but where did he get this stuff?  Was it poisoned by careless handling (in a pesticide container) after the retail sale?

The corruption among officials in India is legendary.  Every petty official has his hand out for any slight service.  What the cure is for this is problematic.

The Indians seem to be determined to solve their overpopulation problem.

Im tending to believe the oil was s stored in a contaminated container.if the grocer put it in the container or it  was bought that way is yet to be determined.

Well as much as I hate dishonesty and corruption I also, as a player of Simcity, am aware of the problem of having too many people with too few resources at hand, and considering India has a billion of these people, many of whom are too poor to really return anything for what they take... It would be hard not to see the logic in a quietly carried out program of cleansing.

Having said that I doubt this is part of such a rational and logical move, as corruption tends to be a private personal thing between person a and person b or involving small organisations protecting their own skins. If the government was involved I doubt they'd be so ineffective. 23 people out of a billion? Yes. How effective...

As to hygiene I think it surprising that they have complex chemicals such as the poison mentioned, yet can't afford basic stuff like food. Certainly one messed up country. If this was Simcity I'd delete that region

    A bit rude eh?

    ----

As for the fact of people trying to kill their own populace, I think that is bunk and it was probably just some extremely bad mistake in handling of the both the food and the chemicals. Especially since India is known for their corruption, they probably had skipped a few procedures and mixed or stored these two things in the same location or had switched the insecticides for oil for one another.

Any country with over a billion people is rather rude...

Any civilized well built country would manage its resources properly and not allow overpopulation of humans, who are well known for consuming large amounts of many resources. The less humans in a place the better, is usually the rule.

I agree that overpopulation causes many problems but let's not advocate genocide or other forms of mass murder, eh?

India is in a cyclic low at the moment.  The civilizations there have come and gone, some of them would be the envy of many tropical states.  After the end of the British Raj in 1947 and the subsequent separation of Pakistan, there remain several regional factions that are not at all pleased with each other, and the outlawed caste system persists.  They've really only been in the present form for just over 50 years, so with the additional problem of over-population it is not surprising it is a bit of an enigma.

The internal pressures alone, together with the fall from prominence of many once-rich families has created a huge pool of idleness, and we know that the devil makes work for idle hands.  With all the crowding, it is not surprising that the ordure rises to the top, being the most mobile (slippery?) of the mob.

However, carelessness in child-care is an issue that they have yet to overcome.  Children have a poor life expectancy there with causes of death ranging from snake-bite (they have lots of poisonous snakes there), and being carried off into the jungle by some wild beast, to simple lack of sanitation disease such as cholera, dysentery, and even Hansen's disease (leprosy).

The social scene still prefers sons to daughters, and women are considered to be chattels at best.  This has led to much unrest as the western examples become more obvious thanks to the global communications system and the outsourced jobs that seem to land there.  The government of India may hold some sway in New Delhi, but one wonders how far their mandate really runs in this kicked-over ant's nest.

I think you may be referring to more rural parts of India, urbanization has culled some of the sexism, ofc I am just speaking of my family and its group and there are always many who aren't.

India formed some weird corperatocracy during the 70's and 80's and it has created a influx of negligence because "its india" but improvements in society have made some problems move over to Bangadalesh, such as their extremely bad building safety standards.

    The Teachers Object.

Evidently this program runs on a shoe-string.

"The state does not have the resources to hire people to implement the scheme," he said.

It is all very well to mandate a program, but with no funds to implement it, the teachers are forced by a court order to be the operators.  People doing things under protest or coercion will not do a quality job.  So what now?

The only other solution to overpopulation is controlling the creation of new units, which is unpopular. People don't want to have to get licences to create new units, or be limited to the number created, so extermination of weaker units is the only logical path with these things.

here simply isn't enough resources to support 7 billion units. It simply is't sensible.

I think if you dig a little you'll find with proper distribution and handling of resources, the world could feed around 11 billion people.  The reason various countries are in crisis is because there are various countries.

I meant realistically. Yes there may well be enough resources technically. However what living standard would we have if everyone lived equally? We'd probably never be able to aspire to anything beyond being a lifelong pauper with our daily bread and ale. Capitalism wouldn't be very effective if we spread resources equally. There'd be no competition or battle. Thus no sense in trying.

I think however you are right about the problem of factions. If there was a unified world government resources would be dealt with in a level manner. However some people deserve resources more than others. There are plenty of truly dispensable individuals (from everything but a purely moralistic view) who make or don't even make a subsistence living.

Investment in these backwards nations may well improve the conditions for people there and result in a slowing down of overpopulation and the problems that arise from it, however the problem has got to such a stage that it would be rather miraculous if it was solved in such a manner, requiring so much cooperation from the 'various countries'.

If this was Simcity India would be mostly a giant slum taking up power and water. I'd probably restart that region.

Can we have enough of the "deleting the region if it were SimCity"? Sure India may have it's problems, but then again, all countries do.

Hah, for 90% of humanity it would be a major improvement in living conditions. For 9% it would make very little difference and for about 1% it would mean a significant drop in wealth. But yes, lets just screw over 90% of humanity for the sake of that 1% because god knows those rich guys really need all the help they can get.

Capitalism would work much better as competition actually increases. It would find ways to increase the efficiency of the resources we have, thus only increasing the wealth, but this time for everyone and not just the select lucky few who were born in the right family.

Actually the reason why capitalism is failing right now is exactly because of the unequal distribution of resources. It wastes massive amounts of potential simply because all the resources are hoarded by a small group of people who have such a massive headstart that it is almost impossible for anyone else to effectively try and succeed, even if they have brilliant business ideas. Right now capitalists are wasting all that massive wealth on maintaining the status quo rather than investing it properly and improving the world around them.

As it is now capitalism will consume itself and the system will collapse. You can't have a consumer based economy when most of your consumers need to spend all their resources on simply getting enough food on the table.

Very good point.  Look at society in general at the end of WW II.  The world was concerned with rebuilding destroyed countries while at the same time America was starting the consumer spiral.  Here we are seventy years or so later, and what have we got?  A fiscal feudalism with the dukes of wealth lording it over the rest of us.

The wealthy class used to try to improve the lot of their workers, but no longer.  Workers are treated as a commodity to be slung around like kegs of oil.  All sense of responsibility has evaporated from most of these plutocrats, some of them third or fourth generation have no idea where all their bling came from, and don't care as long as it keeps coming.

We are as stupid as the Roman Plebs, seeking instant gratification, enjoying the overpaid gladiators (professional sports), and chomping the imported wheat.  One day the wheat supply will go away.  What then?

I always found it telling that the department dealing with employee's in a company is called 'human resources' which is pretty much an admission that for most companies people are like coal, oil or some other commodity.

 Yes, but old timers like us used to be able to get a job from Personnel departments, while facing a Human Resources department is more formidable.  You have to convince a truly disinterested party that you have the qualifications for the job, even though they are a ridiculous list.  Resumes have become all important, but all the jobs I got were by interview.

No, I'm not even old enough to ever had the displeasure of dealing with any 'human resources' people. Well, aside from that one time I had interview someone who worked on a human resources department.
