RCI Demand?

I have been playing SimCity 4 for a couple of weeks now and I keep running in to the same problem. I start to have no job zots in my city. When I look at my RCI Graph, I have demand for all of the residential zones and no demand for my Comercial or Industry zones. This makes no sense to me. If I have unemployement in my city, then why dont I have demand for jobs to be built. Can anyone straighten me out on this. I would like to understand the RCI Graph better anyways, so if anyone can point me in the direction of an RCI tutorial I would appreciate it!

Thanks!!!

First question:

- Do you use NAM? Without its optimized Traffic Controller it's hard to build any bigger successful city.

If you DO use NAM, then second question:

- Does this problem touch all residential types? Or only high wealth (R$$$)?

Third question:

- Do you have enough educational buildings in the city?

Fourth question:

- Are you sure you haven't overzoned COM and IND sectors?

Fifth question:

- Do you use any demand mod?

Sixth question:

- Do you have any demand cap relievers? Neighbour connections/ plazas(for COM)/ parks(for RES)?

Seventh question:

- Have you made any changes to taxes?

Do you already have NAM mod? If not, you should download and install it.

    Hello!

        1. I do have NAM 31.2 and its setting is on Medium.

        2. Yes this problem seems to touch all people. Some times it is R$ and R$$, but I have noticed that it does seem like R$$$ happens more often with no job zots

        3. In my city, I had 2 elemetary schools and a high school (these schools were downloaded so not Maxis Schools)

        4. I may have overzoned a bit on the IND and COM Zones

        5. I do not use a demand mod

        6. I have neighbor connections but no plazas or parks

        7. All of my taxes are sitting on 9% across the board

Sounds like a newer player who hasn't tamed the beast as yet.  Suggestions:

    1. Play on turtle mode

    2. Don't try to lay out a road grid

    3. Make a couple of short streets that cross each other

    4. Use minimum water and power buildings (water tower, wind generator)

    5. Zone about 8 or 10 low density commercial lots along these streets.  When they start developing then:

    6. Zone about the same number of 2 x 1 low density residential.

    7. Continue in this way until you go profitable.

Take time and enjoy the animation, and don't rush.  A basic goal should be to get in the black and stay there.  Make some money.  Add farms before industry.  Grow out before up, and rezone rather than build new zones.  You can overlay exising lots with higher density without destroying the existing buildings.

Couple of weeks? Depenging of the intensity of your playing, you might wish to check age graphs. If you have developed your city according the needs of your oldest residentials, young sims may have a trouble to find jobs. Make sure that you have enough Light Commercial around popular roads and residential streetcorners to provide Cs§ for your young and poor sims.

Minimum weight jobs and 0-hour industrial jobs; that is how we fight against unemployment problems. How benevolent mayor you ever wanted to be, social politics weren't included in SC4.

Edit: And my eyes just jumped over the part where BWest246 tells us that problem affects R§§§. Are you sure that those buildings haven't diplidated to R§§ or R§?

    Hello!

I took a look at my city and a majority of the buildings in my city with no job zots above them say they are R$$$. I am thinking I may have built a few to many high density buildings in my city. I am still experimenting.

High density zoning is usually appropriate after you have run at least enough to get your Sims university degrees.  Standard time from birth to a baccalaureate is 24 Sim years, and then what you have is entry level R$$.

Aesop's adage in this case is right:  slow and steady builds the city.  And yes, a screen shot would be very helpful.

To post a screen shot you will need an account on a photo storage site, upload the picture and using the URL of the picture and the image button (10th from the lest, second line), you should be successful.
