So I have been modding here lately and I have noticed a problem. I am getting frequent CTD, but it only happens when I am zooming in. What can be causing this? Any ideas??

Thanks!

Zooming in and out too quickly with the mouse wheel is known to cause CTD's. Try using the buttons, or the 1-6 keys on your keyboard instead.

Have you, by any chance, applied the single core trick? Simcity 4 is not designed to run on multi-core systems; doing so makes SC4 VERY prone to crashes.

Yup, restricting the game to one core, the 4GB patch (if applicable) and correctly setting up my graphics card (takes some editing of game files) completely eliminated all my game crashes. Except the thing with puzzle pieces and transit-enabled lots, but that's an unfixable game bug.

You can change the number of cores to 1 in SC4launcher (available in the STEX), you can also do that in the command line, I thought it was cpucount:1

I'm having no problems with puzzle pieces either, but I'm running it on a pentium 4 at the moment, maybe that helps. I had problems before but now I've changed the cpu-count to 1 (it was set on 2 for some reason) and I've turned on Directx in SC4launcher. Since then I didn't have any problems at all. I'm going to install it on my Intel i5 notebook. I'm curious whether it works then!

<space>-CPUcount:1 is the correct syntax.

Sorry I am just now responding to this, but I figured out that if I use the (- and +) keys instead of zooming with my mouse, it fixes my CTD problem!

Over scrolling with the mouse could easily cause the game to crap out from too much input.  Every click puts a new POV request on the input queue.  There are only 6 POVs in the whole game, and this is not a continuous camera.  You can use the numeric keys 1 - 6 to select the POV directly.
