Base textures of transit networks

Am I correct in thinking that there is no way to lay functional roads with buildings alongside without sidewalks or grass showing up along the edges.  I would love to be able to use RHW networks with buildings alongside without that awful looking grass.  Is it possible to have an invisible base texture?  Hope this makes sense.

As I understand it, the problem is that if you change the wealth textures to be invisible, they will also be invisible on roads, streets, avenues, etc.  I believe they are all linked.

 

I could be a bit wrong in my explanation, but in any case I know the issue has been brought up before and you can't make the wealth textures invisible for RHW (without changing every piece to a model, that is).
