Education/Unskilled workers question

I am playing SC again for the first time in months, and am wondering if they changed how education worked. BEfore all you needed was a university and all students went to that, you didn't need a grade or high school. HAs this changed?

Also, I noticed despite my population being highly educated, many factories keep saying not enough skilled workers, is this because there is no college for medium wealth jobs and my sims are only going to high wealth high tech jobs? THis was a big issue I had before and assumed it would be working much better now.  Do you now need high schools and colleges?

No, you still need only one type of education building to educate your sims.

As for skilled workers those are created by a college or a university.

Yeah, you still only really need one type of education building. While this is unrealistic, in a way, I think it seems to make more sense in the context of the game... otherwise it'd be insanely expensive in order to provide all levels of education prior to college/university and seeing as the game doesn't distinguish between the different types of education.

There is still an advantage to having both a lowel level and upper level education: grade schools & high schools can pick students up at bus stops while colleges and universities require students to travel there on their own... something that can significantly add to traffic problems. You can offset this, a bit, with school bus stops to pick up sims that are further away and thus require less traffic.

On a related note, does anybody know if the thought-bubble "I never thought it'd be this hard to find good managers" is related to education or to wealth level? I have been assuming wealth level but just not 100% sure, since it doesn't seem totally clear.

Wouldnt the smart thing to do would be to drop the cost of education buildings? I actually have no issue with having 3 buildings and still raking in the money.... Wish they did a  better job with education and skilled workers, it's a mess right now., All my sims are educated, and I have way more residential then industry but they always have issues finding skilled workers. Sad to see after a bunch of patches the game has a long way to go.

Well since it's only second or third tech level industry that has that bubble while dirty industry never minds even dou it also needs high wealth workers I would say it's an education thing.

In order for multiple education levels to be implemented kids/student agents would have to have levels as well. Which would require having multiple subgroups for that type of agents. I don't see Maxis messing with that anytime soon if ever.

Ah, so you do own the game. :)

What's your ratio? I think you're supposed to have a 3-1 ratio with residential and industry.

    Trust Christ.

That ratio works for standard (non-tech) industries, not sure about medium and high tech industry. The closer the college and/or university is to industry the better it will work though.

Definition of success; like getting the juice from an orange, just suck and suck until you suck seed.

I've been using both a grade school and a college funnily enough, in order to cut down on traffic. I'm pretty sure education buildings send out agents just like power plants, water pumps and such, which ping your buildings. If you don't expand class sizes for your colleges, and depending on placement, you seem to get a very modest spawn of driving students, and the rest will be grade school. So I get enough people going to colleges to generate enough tech to keep my industry upgraded, and cover the rest with schools.
