how to install mods?

One of the first sections of that thread will detail how to install downloadable files into SC4. Quick process once you get used to it.

All custom content for the game should be placed in your "Documents\SimCity 4\Plugins" folder.

 

When you download a file from the exchange, it will usually come in a compressed ZIP format. Never place this directly into your plugins folder. Instead, the individual files must be extracted -- preferably to a temporary folder where they can be organised. Once you've done this, it's advisable to remove and separately store any images / readme files, as they're not needed by the game. Leaving these in your plugins will only increase loading times.

 

Some mods must be placed in the root of this folder (i.e. directly inside), such as the So you should always check the readme / description for any specific installation requirements. A mod may also require dependencies, which are additional models, props or texture packs. These are often needed for a lot to function correctly in the game, and prevent brown boxes from showing.
