Too Many Hotels

Hi  I have built a tourist city with landmarks and amusement park and it has a lot of hotels. Now my citizens are complaining of having no shops and also the hotels get abandoned due to having only a small amount of guests. Destroying them does nothing as they re spawn as soon as they are destroyed and the problems recurs. This never ending cycle is too annoying. Does anybody have a solution to this?

the most convenient way i think is to dezone all your  commercial buildings before you plop down a landmark or expo. then rezone the parts where u want the hotels to be.

that way your shops will remain as shops and the newly zone area will spawn hotels.

Thanks the problem is solved now and the city is functioning very well. Over half a million daily profit in gambling + over 200k daily profit from amusement park and some 300k from recycling center exports and 80% approval rating.

I was aware of the 'dezoning' trick but it has it's short comings. If you edit an area or 'badzilla' decides to visit the landfill the shops are replaced with hotels. I think Maxis needs to introduce at least a randomization to whether a hotel or shop appears. Better yet would be tourism proximity with some randomization.

The real question is, are hotels actually different from shops in terms of revenue and function other than tourism? Although it bugs me to see nothing but hotels, can sims still shop there?

No, hotels don't have goods. So there is nothing for Sims to shop for at Hotels. What Maxis needs to do is to give us two C options. Light blue and dark blue. Hotel and shop zone C tools.

As for how much taxes you can get from a hotel vs a shop at same density level, no idea. The taxes are so insignificant anyway.

maxis has way too many things to fix.

i dont know what u mean by the problem if the lizard vists. if he visits, just plop down a garbage dump in front of him, and he wont destroy anything else.
