Confusing simulation

Hi all mayors,

I don't know if this have been covered before in the forums, but at least I have been following most posts here in the last few weeks.

What I don't understand is I have a city with ~150k population. I have designed my road system such that there is little or no red along major avenues. However, for some reason, after monitoring it for a few days game time, everything seem to be stable. However, if I leave the simulation on for 30 min real time, and I go back and look at the roads, suddenly tonnes of red areas appear. Note that nothing major has happened in  that 30 min and my population is more or less the same. also note that my crime was around 0-2 crime/day and because of the new red traffic zones, it goes up to 15/day.

This does not make sense to me, because if the traffic was good in the first few days game time, why should it suddenly go red on most zones in a few months game time? I can understand this would happen if there is a huge change in population/something but I simply left it on to run.

I read somewhere that sims don't actually have identities. For eg. sims can change places of stay/work as long as they can find one. Is this the reason why traffic pattern changes? this is kind of bullshit. and if it is true, I can't believe the people who wrote the game are so sloppy. anyone smarter than me, please enlighten!

oh I missed out one rant.

has anyone faced the problem where supply depot is not working properly? after 3.0, my supply depots work fine importing/exporting, however, sending stuff to great work site has been a pain. for some reason, after a while, the delivery trucks disappeared, ie in the regon view, I no longer see my trucks (carrying fuel) at all. Like they vanished into thin air and nothing is sending to my great work site. However when I switch to export, suddenly they appear again. I try switching back and forth between export and use locally but whenever I do use locally, the trucks disappear.

Basically, yes. Power, water, sewer, workers, shoppers, etc. all use the same algorithm or AI or agent. Here is a better rant and will probably do a better job of explaining than I;  http://answers.ea.com/t5/Miscellaneous-Issues/Traffic-quot-AI-quot-This-is-why-services-and-traffic-are-broken/td-p/737060

If you are building the arcology, then massive amounts of workers are going there and coming back to your city, delivery trucks may be stuck in traffic, tilt down until you can see the regional highway or go to region view to see if this may be the problem.

update: ok I thought I should calm down and go back to the game. I went back to region view and NONE of my fuel delivery trucks are present. So I went back to city view, bulldoze all my delivery truck garage and plopped down new ones. Ok got my 8 delivery trucks back again. Went to region view and can see them moving to the great work site. Awesome.

City view, 20 min real time trying to fix some problems, then region view, my delivery trucks went from 8 to 4. Then I stay on more and saw the trucks enter the great work site and NOT out. Slowly, all 8 of them disappeared again. So I repeat the process and put 8 more garages.

Seriously, this is a bug. so now I have to sit in front of region view cheetah speed to monitor and if they disappear I would have to bulldoze and plop new ones....there must be a better way to spend my time than micro manage this.

Are you sure the trucks are disappearing? Maybe the simulation is not showing them. Does the arcology show resources being delivered? If not, then they are disappearing. I think the proper setting for trade depots to send stuff to arcology actually is use locally. That's what I used to send 60k tvs. For the traffic problem, maybe people aren't using as much mass transit and are driving instead. They might also be using different routes. Try following some sims to see how they get to their destinations.

I experienced what you are describing, at least I thought so. However, what I found was that this was a regional play problem. I sat for sometimes more than an hour waiting for the great works to get the material it needed, but it didn't seem to be working. The trick is to play another city in that region for a short while, which seems to sync the region. I found, more than once, that shortly after starting the second city the great works would be "magically" finished.

I can most certainly confirm Cityfern's comments.

I went back and forth between cities trying to build the Arcology.  In one city, it said I shipped 3000 TV's.  I went to my other city, it said I only shipped 1000.  I went back to the first city where the TV's are shipping from... and it instantly said I was done shipping all 10,000 or whatever number of TV's is required..... hilarious.

I am sure the trucks disappeared. but like i said, the problem was solved when I bulldozed the truck garages and replop them. then I have to monitor closely to make sure those trucks are not missing.

in fact, I sat down and watch the delivery for 30 min last night, and sometimes when the trucks enter the great work site zone, they normally just enter and then reappear and drive back to your city. sometimes they do get stuck inside, ie disappear, for around 2min and might reappear. if not, you need to bulldoze and replop them. kind of stupid in my opinion.

as for cityfern and vanGioRobNelli, I also observe the same thing...not sure if it is a bug or the syncing is just not real time.

another issue I have with great work, is sometimes when the great work is completed, but I have not claimed all the cities that are connected to it. And if I then claim a city, there is a chance the greatwork would appear to never have been built. In other words, if I have 3/4 cities claimed while building the great work, all of them tend to see the great work after I completed it. However, this one city which I claimed after the great work, does not seem to register. It even lets me build a new great work.

another issue with the space center great work is sometimes they say the computers are down with a virus and it requests I send 20000 crates of computers to the site. I then load a different city (where I have computers), and this problem does not exist even after letting it run for a while. When I go back to the original city, the problem is still there. Ignore it and the problem self -rectifies. this to me is stupid too, because I don't see the purpose of this problem if it self-rectifies.

You most likely left the city after claiming it before it received all the activated things from the region. You can get town hall mods not received like that as well. Then a city will simply not recognize some mods from other cities. You have to stay quite a while in a new city plot after first claiming it, to make sure it received all the unlocks.

You could try abandoning and reclaiming a city to see if that restarts the protocols for receiving mod unlocks.

Each city has it's own communication with Great works, and it can take a while for all cities to get sinked to the same time "zone" with a Great work.

Until the event happens. It may take a few minutes your time or it may take more. I have bounced back and fourth between cities for well over ten minutes before a gift was received. I have received a gift in just a few minutes before this. Whatever you did, you should stay in the city until you receive the notice that it was activated, then go to the other city and wait until you receive the notice that it was sent. In the case of a great work, watching the delivery trucks don't really matter, wait until you see the goods increment on the great works counters, only then will it have received the goods.

Basically, the larger the city, the longer it takes.

Yeah, like tobles wrote, you have to wait until you receive all the messages and see everything unlocked and in case of Great workes updated graphically as well on the grate work plot.

All delivery vehicles have gone missing for me twice now, I model it as shortages but it's scary and buglike perhaps. Depots full of plastic but nothing moving, with little traffic in the region and an export railyard delivering

well, try what I did, by bulldozing the existing garages and plopping new delivery trucks in the depot module.

had a similar problem with my delivery trucks not sending ore and coal from depots to my smelter. pretty annoying when your city is reliant on that income to stay in the black.
