Very interesting idea. Let me know if you can still use service roads between those zones though. This will probably help fire/police/sewage coverage. 

And it should be under city concepts  &experiments not here.

    Luckily we control Sims, because if that were real life (as many people here want the game to be) there is no way in HELL that will work.

     

    However, because we control Sims, it works and it seems like a good technique, albeit a little expensive to layout to start with.

    This trick bugs me. I mean it works and that is great, but at the same time it is unrealistic and only works with two exits. *grumbles*

    it works with 1 exit... watch video 4 on his channel.

     

    And if your gripe is that it's "unrealistic", have you played SC2013 at all?  The ENTIRE "simulation" is unrealistic.  

     

    For example, since when can you only have high rise building or larger complexes on Medium or High Density streets?

    Any metropolitan area anywhere on earth will tell you this is incorrect... there are plenty of low capacity streets with high rises.

     

    Since when do people NOT return the the same house/job the next day?

    That tends to only happen if you get laid off and evicted all in one fell swoop.

     

    Since when can cars NOT turn left?

    umm... i got nothing for that one...lol

     

    Since when is a mayor not able to regulate what type of services he doesn't want help from other towns on?

    I mean, you can't turn that off if some neighbor sends you buses/police/fire/garbage/recycling.

     

    It goes on and on...

    There are plenty of unrealistic aspects to the game. I never claimed otherwise. However, what I am referring to is you couldn't make such a system work in real life and the fact that it does work highlights how the simulation is unrealistic.

    This idea works GREAT after patch 3.0 now that sims can walk on streetcar tracks.  Check it out!  Fully functional, fully upgraded education city with minimal traffic.  I force most students and residents to use streetcars to get to jobs.  They have the option to drive, but it takes them on the outer loop interstate of the map.

    Nice find! I noticed that streetcars were working better, much better than before. Now you have just added new light on the subject.

    Now that works for me. The way I read things the only options was the streetcars, but just making it the shortest possible route while leaving the option to drive there makes a lot of sense. Thank you!

    Surely this trick doesn't work when you're starting out with a city with only one entrance and you're wanting to actually get people in to start building?
