Need help making diagonal rhw

I'm hoping there's a simple answer to my question that I'm just overlooking.  I want to create a diagonal bridge with the rhw system.  However, for some reason I can't seem to be able to make a diagonal rhw.  I start with two starter pieces side by side, yellow lines inside, and they drag fine side by side when making a straight highway, but when I turn it diagonal, it won't allow me to create the two lanes side by side.  I can drag one lane without a problem, but when I drag the opposing one next to it (using shared tiles), it keeps saying failure to level terrain or something like that.  What am I doing wrong? Any help appreciated.

Try levelling the terrain using the mayor mode levelling tool.  Be careful, and maybe use it at half-power (SHIFT+F5).

Failing that, you should probably post your query in the NAM support thread.

nas786 You should try posting a picture of where you are having trouble, it will make it much easier for people to diagnose the problem, but it sounds like you need level the area where you are laying your RHW.

When I am laying down any road network on terrain that is uneven, quite often I will lay down some rail track first, where the road is going to go. This has the effect of smoothing out the terrain without completely levelling it, which looks a whole lot better and more realistic in my opinion. Obviously, demolish the rail next, and then lay down your roads.

Using a slope mod also improves this.

Hope this helps, let us know how you get on.

Ok, so basically what I was trying to do was create a diagonal rhw that takes up 3 squares (counting both directions of traffic), so basically that it takes up as much width as an avenue.  When I put down starter pieces and try and drag them side by side at a diagonal it would not let me make the second lane next to the first lane.  It seems that when going on a diagonal I have to leave a bit more space between the different lanes, meaning even tho its two lanes per direction, it is wider than a diagonal avenue.  The terrain is actually perfectly leveled, as I used road pieces to make sure it was exactly at the same level, so that wasn't the issue.

In my situation I actually got it figured out, since I was doing it strictly to create an avenue diagonal bridge.  It would allow me to create two lanes side by side at a diagonal with rhw as long as I didn't drag it from a starter piece, so essentially it was two two way traffic roads side by side.  The reason this wasn't an issue in my case was because I then used the "avenue starter piece" for the bridge and it automatically turned it into a two lane avenue with two side by side lanes going in each direction.

I don't use rhw when I play, that's why I'm so bad at it.   But I needed it for the diagonal bridge.

I'm thinking the perhaps that's just how rhw is, it does not allow lanes so close to one another on a diagonal.  Thank you guys for your replies, I very much appreciate it :)

I understand exactly what you're talking about.  No, you can't drag two opposite-direction RHW roads within a three-tile diagonal space.   You need at least 4 tiles.  If you try to make it any closer together, the middle tile will be overlapping.

Also, you can't make two bridges within one tile of each other either.  That's hard coded into the game.

You can, as an alternative, use diagonal MHW (which looks just like RHW if you've chosen to install Project Symphony with the NAM) and use a diagonal avenue bridge.  That would allow you to accomplish what you want in the space you want.
