Riff starts to BAT

Well, I've been toying around with GMAX a bit, and have created some stuff. I haven't fully reached my potential yet, and GMAX is a hard piece of software to learn. But I felt I might start a thread to showcase what I create, to learn as I go, to post updates and drafts, and to generally have fun with all of it.

Please feel free to comment and be helpful if I have any problems.

For the first post, I have an uncompleted version of Aegon Center in Louisville, KY. I was just there yesterday soaking in the architecture and became inspired. On this model I have yet to apply textures and may have to tweak it some. I also need to apply a lattice to the dome on the top of the tower. But this being my first real attempt at BATting, I wouldn't say it's bad.

Here's a pic of the real building.

And my BAT attempt.

I hope I can complete this building and make my mark on ST.

I put some windows on one side of Aegon. It's pretty accurate.

I also had to narrow one of the boxes within the building as I tweaked it. Still trying to figure out how to lattice.

Here's another pic of the real thing, to give you better idea at the complexity of it all.

And finally a pic showing it lights up at night. Not just the windows, but bright spotlights below the dome, and the dome itself.

I'm finding that Aegon is too much for my computer, I can't even preview it now with all the windows on it. And the windows are separate entities, there's hundreds of them.

As for the dome, this is what it looks like. I've yet to start on that.

Here's some pics of the most recent work on it.

Now the Futuristic City thread in City-Building Concepts has given me some ideas and especially thanks to dudyconstructor for the idea of a Jetson Building. Check the thread for his first version. I'm not sure if there is enough interest in Jetson type buildings but they would be unique enough for anyone willing to try something different.

With this I am pushing for a mod that would make cars fly, at various altitudes. But I would not recommend this for people who want a normal game. This may not even be possible and if it did it may not work correctly, I just don't know what is entirely possible.

I will now post some of my concepts for Jetson Type Buildings. We'll call them JTB's for short.

    jetson_bat2-textured.jpg

    jetson_bat3.jpg

    jetson_bat4.jpg

    jetson_bat5.jpg

Hope these are appreciated, and maybe there is enough support to get these BATTed.

As for Aegon, I will see if the windows can just be textures instead of all the separate polygons.

Well all of those are looking good man, I like the Jetson building. I'll be checking back now and then to see how things are going.

You could make cars fly. The downside is that, basically, the way to do it is lift the model used for each automata above the ground plane. This means that the car will only float above the roads, and it will go up when the ground goes up. It also can't change altitudes. Now, I don't know enough about UDI vehicles to say definitely whether airplanes can be set as a commute transit type or not. If they can, maybe we can add pathfinding code to it and then designate a few car models as airplanes and make them fly.

Anyway, great job on the Jetson BATs. Why don't you see if you can model a Jetsons bubble car?

The AEGON looks great. Could you send me your model file? I'd be happy to try to fix the lattice issue.

Ardecila: about altitudes, I was thinking if there could be one set of vehicles at one altitude and another set above them and so on. The vehicles don't have to change altitudes. Think lanes of traffic.

No; what I meant when I said they couldn't change altitudes is the buildings' entrance heights. Unless the buildings are all BATted with entrances on relatively the same level, it'll look kind of weird.

Ok, I understand now, you meant just one level of traffic that could commute to the buildings.

But somehow there must be a way to create skyways above that level that act as highways and don't have to commute with any of the buildings. A bypass above commuter traffic? Oh, this is getting confusing now...

Here's an apartment building I created. Not the futuristic type. My BATTing could cover all grounds.

This updated version show the deletion of the bottom balconies, which were unnecessary since they were on the ground floor.

    well, don't give up

btw on your 1st building, your windows are pupping out; to prevent this you have to build beam by beam and column by column. that way, the windows will fit in the holes

    Hello again, fellow BATters.

I will attempt to get Aegon Center completed. Nintendo Master has said he will help out with certain parts and the rendering.

dont forget that windows are in the construction, they dont pop out the frame.

the best way to build this way effectively is to make the building's skeletton with beams and trusses and place windows in their holes.
